Studies leading to the degree of Master of Science in Geology normally emphasize the fields of Petrochemistry and Tectonophysics. Petrochemistry is deemed to include: Field and laboratory studies of ore deposits, igneous, metamorphic, and lithified sedimentary rocks. Tectonophysics is deemed to include: Field and laboratory studies of structural geology, rock magnetism, and basin analysis.

The bachelor's degree in geological engineering is a cooperative type program, in a work-study program. Specialty courses include a solid foundation in Earth sciences, followed by the practical application of these concepts to solving industrial problems. Particular emphasis is placed on quantitative disciplines such as applied geophysics, geostatistics, geomechanics, soil mechanics, and hydrogeology.

The 10-week Mining Industry Pre-Employment program is delivered in Regina, Saskatoon, and Yorkton. The program includes classroom training, mine site tours, life skills training, career planning, and safety tickets. Students may also complete a two-week practicum at a mine site.
