The Associate in Arts for Transfer Degree in Geography focuses on the world’s physical and social processes. While Geography majors may go on to specialize in a specific area of Geography, the AAT provides students with a foundational understanding of the main systems and processes that interact to produce and maintain our physical and social world, as well as the tools to study them, including GIS (Geographic Information Systems).

The Master of Science in Geography degree program trains young professionals in areas of human and physical geography, while building on students’ working knowledge of geospatial techniques. With a faculty-to-student ratio of 1-to-2, our graduate students have exceptional mentorship and research opportunities.

Geography is a discipline that integrates the environmental and social sciences. Geography studies location, places, regions, human-environment interactions, and movement. Its tools include cartography and geographic information systems (GIS). On the job, Geography graduates address social, physical, and environmental problems from the global to the local scale.

The Geography program is one of two programs housed in the Department of Earth Science and Geography. Geography studies the spatial distribution of features across Earth’s landscape, such as the location of landforms, water bodies, and the organization of climate zones. It also considers the human landscape including how populations are distributed, why they migrate, and the ways they alter natural and urban environments. As a tool to advance these spatial analyses, the Geography program teaches the use of both traditional and computer-based geotechnical skills (geotechniques) such as cartography, remote sensing, and geographic information systems (GIS).

The program in BSc in Geography provides a general bachelor level education in geography. It includes introductory modules to Nature and social sciences, to Geology and to Geography. The core of the program is based on the fundamental issues of including topics in Physical, Human and Regional geography.

The Geography Doctoral Program’s students graduate at the cutting edge of geographic knowledge, instruction, and practice, both within and beyond the academy. Geography BSc trains geographers who have advanced theoretical and applied geographic knowledge; they are able to analyze the spatial and temporal correlations of the natural, socio-economic and urban environment, to synthesize results, and to gain knowledge in their academic field independently.

An Associate in Arts in Geography for Transfer (AA-T) from Skyline College is intended for students who are interested in transferring to a California State University (CSU) campus with a major in Geography, or similar major.

The purpose of the Ph.D. in Geography is to provide qualifying students with an in-depth understanding and integrated knowledge of advanced applicable theory in the field of geography.

An introduction to the geographic study of the Earth’s environmental systems, with particular emphasis on energy, landforms, vegetation, surficial materials and water. Includes laboratory studies, tutorials and field work. Physical Geography is the study of the natural environment that promotes the understanding of the interactions between social, earth and physical science.
