Liberal Studies (LBS) is an interdisciplinary undergraduate major for students who intend to become elementary and special education teachers or to pursue related graduate work. Courses leading to the B.A. in Liberal Studies focus on the subject areas taught in elementary schools as well as professional preparation and early fieldwork. LBS is a California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) approved Elementary Subject Matter Preparation Program (ESM). LBS also offers two Integrated Teacher Education Programs (ITEP) in which students earn a B.A. and a credential for teaching elementary school (multiple subjects) or special education (education specialist mild/moderate).

The Associate in Arts Degree in Global Studies for Transfer is intended for students interested in transferring to a California State University (CSU) campus with a major in Global Studies, or similar major.

This is an interdisciplinary major designed primarily for students who desire a broad, multidisciplinary general education in the best tradition of the liberal arts and who wish to avoid the specialization of a major field. (Note: these requirements are for those students majoring in Liberal Studies only, not for those students majoring in both Liberal Studies and Education.)

The Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies degree program is primarily designed for students seeking to enhance their general education in the humanities, social sciences or liberal arts at the graduate level. It provides a flexible, multidisciplinary framework to accommodate the varied undergraduate backgrounds and personal interests that students bring to the program.

The Certificate of Achievement (COA) in the Global Studies program encourages students to become global thinkers and problem-solvers. Students can earn this COA by choosing general education courses that have an international focus, while also earning a degree in another area of study.

Our interdisciplinary studies bachelor’s degree allows you to maximize any prior college credit, military training, or on-the-job training you might have and turn it into credit toward degree completion. You have the possibility of earning your degree quicker and in a more affordable manner. To represent the variety of courses integrated into this program, we named our degree “interdisciplinary studies” as opposed to “general studies,” which you might see at other universities.

The Associate in Arts Liberal Arts: Cross-Cultural Studies degree program is designed for students who wish for a broad knowledge of liberal arts and sciences with an area of emphasis in Cross-Cultural Studies. This program is an ideal choice for students planning on transferring to the California State University or the University of California as the student can satisfy their general education requirements, plus focus on transferable course work that relates to majors at CSU or UC.

This concentration enables students to understand and assess society within international, human, and social contexts. Students can focus on business, conflict transformation, or a specific geographical area: Africa, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, or Southeast Asia. For students interested in global affairs, conflict resolution, civil service, and international organizations.

The curriculum is designed to help students understand the dynamics and influence of gender that will shape students’ academic, professional, and personal development and will lead students to ask the kinds of critical questions that are essential to addressing some of the most pressing needs of society. The Women’s and Gender Studies Concentration B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies helps students develop skills needed in business, healthcare, education, government, and the nonprofit sector.
