Situated Design is a graduation track of the Master of Arts in Fine Art & Design at Avans. The programme recognizes you as a distinct presence in the world. You immerse in modern discourses and focus on prevailing conditions, situated knowledge and design practices. Your studies will take place within a diverse community of master's students from different backgrounds. You frequently collaborate with each other, across pathways and outside of the campus. This way you gain experience in a wide range of practices and establish a valuable network. Situated Design maintains strong connections with designers, publishers and institutions in the Netherlands and abroad.Through exposure to a variety of design methodologies and practices, students learn to iterate design concepts and are able to analyze, inform and shape their projects from concept to final project. Students learn to design with emerging technologies and creative software to create new perspectives and innovative forms of design and user experiences.

Globalisation is shaping the world in which we live. In the BA International Studies, you have the opportunity to study one of eight world regions within the context of global interactions. At the same time, you will learn a key language of your chosen region and acquire skills that will prove to be highly valuable for your future career.

The international Master Artist Educator (iMAE) program is not about projecting art onto communities, but about working together with a variety of groups and individuals: from public servants to the private sector, with both artists and non-artists, teachers, students, NGO’s and policy makers. At iMAE we learn by doing and making together. You bring – and throughout the program further develop – your own practice and research interest to address pressing social concerns: migration, identity, conflict, environment and diversity.

Our Liberal Arts and Sciences program offers students the opportunity to study a broad range of subjects whilst developing specialist knowledge in their major discipline (Humanities, Sciences, Social Sciences). Throughout the degree, students will work in interdisciplinary teams on a series of projects that take them outside of the classroom. This will enable students to learn how to apply a creative approach to finding solutions for complex global challenges.

This master programme offers courses in the philosophy and history of science, skills courses to improve your writing, and tutorials in which you work with experts on the philosophy of your discipline. Additionally, the programme will regularly organize colloquia with experts working on the intersection of the philosophy, science and humanities.

In a globalised world, there is a need for experts on religion who can help explain and solve conflicts, and who can find common ground to bridge differences between groups with various religious viewpoints and political aims. In this unique international two-year Program we train these experts in understanding religious movements, identities, and diversity, and how such phenomena interact with wider social, cultural, political and economic environments, in both historical and contemporary contexts. It prepares you to make a difference in careers like diplomacy, international development, research, journalism, or social welfare.
