The MA Gender Studies and Law at SOAS is a unique programme, its principal aim being to re-focus issues prioritised in western Gender Studies and Legal Theory on the complex specificities of Asia, Africa and the Near and Middle East. Jointly housed by the Centre for Gender Studies and the School of Law, the programme offers the specialised study of gender and law in relation to the cultures of Asia, Africa and the Middle East, together with rigorous training in, and questioning of, contemporary gender theory.

Our MA Legal Studies (General Programme) allows students to study at our vibrant School of Law with its unique focus on the legal systems and legal challenges of the Global South generally and Asia, Africa and the Middle East in particular. The programme allows students to create their programme structure, choosing modules from a range covering comparative regional law, trade law, law and development, commercial law (including copyright and patent law), human rights, environmental law, Islamic law, dispute resolution, and international law.

The Master of Studies in Law (MSL) program is a non-professional, terminal degree program designed for those who do not plan to practice law or take a bar exam, but want to increase their understanding of the law and legal analysis.

The Global Law and Transnational Legal Studies degree is innovative and is constituted by a large part of comparative law studies. The discipline of legal comparison will give students the possibility to deepen the research of different legal models, practices and cultures.

The LLM General is designed to enhance students' legal skills and enrich their knowledge of a variety of legal subjects across a broad spectrum from criminology to competition law, from regulatory crime law to human rights law. It is suited to those looking for an advanced legal education but who do not wish to focus on a single branch of law. The range of choice is designed to facilitate students in developing their own unique profile in combining various branches of the law into which they will develop the deeper knowledge and understanding brought about by postgraduate study. Upon completion candidates will provide added value to their employer and clients, whether in a traditional law firm, as a practicing barrister, in private industry or with governmental agencies. NOVA School of Law’s 3rd Cycle Programme in Law is a four-year program leading to a Ph.D. degree in Law. The Programme comprises a taught component (over three semesters) where advanced legal studies are carried out with an interdisciplinary focus. This period also provides training in research methodologies and other complementary skills. Towards the end of the taught component of the Programme, candidates must prepare and publicly defend their thesis project.
