9 Environmental Degree Programs in Cyprus

The Master’s Program in Environmental Engineering of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is designed to equip its graduates with the expertise, the soft and hard skills necessary to address the ongoing and future environmental challenges threatening the security and resilience of the ecosystem, and the societal wellbeing. These challenges, aggravated by the changing climate, include, for example, atmospheric and air pollution, deterioration in water quality, urban waste treatment, environmental pollution, erosion of the coastline and decarbonization of the energy nexus.

The MSc/MPhil in Environmental and Energy Sciences promotes research excellence and educates students on the scientific frontiers and advanced methodologies at the vanguard of interconnected issues related to Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences, Water Sciences, Energy and Sustainability.

The doctoral programme in English Literature and Comparative Cultural Studies is designed for students who wish to undertake research in Anglophone or comparative literature, with particular emphasis on theoretical, cross-cultural and interdisciplinary perspectives.

The aim of the doctoral programmes of the CEE Department is to promote scholarly research leading to discovery, learning and innovation according to international standards of excellence, in the broader discipline of CEE, as well as in related multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary fields.

The M.Sc. in Biodiversity Conservation program has a duration of 3 academic semesters (and up to 8 semesters for part-time study) and requires the completion of 90 ECTS. It combines a course component of 60 ECTS in total for which each student can choose from a list of Restricted Elective Courses (see Postgraduate Prospectus) as the series of compulsory departmental postgraduate seminars.

The Ph.D. degree in Biodiversity & Ecology aims at providing students with high-quality education of international standing, so that they can develop a deep understanding of their science and versatile thinking, something critical for their professional career in the modern environment.

The program promotes research excellence and educates students on the scientific frontiers and advanced methodologies at the vanguard of interconnected issues related to Climate and Atmospheric Sciences, Energy, Hydrology, Sustainable Built Environment, and Sustainable Policy.

The 'Civil & Environmental Engineering' Program covers all theoretical and practical knowledge which is necessary for the analysis, design, construction, and management of technical projects, systems, and critical infrastructure. These activities are directly linked to the urban, regional, agricultural, transportation, and energy development of modern societies.

In Cyprus, where the tradition of Gardening and Landscaping is relatively small, the Mediterranean climate creates particular challenges, but with a special adaptation of traditional methods, materials and practices. The two-year programme "Gardening" is a professional programme which, in the direction of the word "learn to do", introduces the students to historical and modern practices and techniques for Gardening, Cultivation and Arboriculture, which are appropriate for the Mediterranean climate. The programme is geared to the Gardening for dry-thermal environments, seaside landscapes and mountainous areas.
