The Master of English Linguistics and Literature will expand your knowledge of the English language, its structure and history, its literature and its cultural embedding. Research-based teaching will allow you to benefit from the expertise of KU Leuven’s internationally renowned scholars in English linguistics and literature. You will be encouraged to develop your communication and research skills through seminars and your personal master’s thesis. The optional component of the programme allows you to additionally study linguistics and literature from a broader European perspective.

This interdisciplinary study programme offers comprehensive training in the English language, literature, and cultures of Anglophone countries. Students develop advanced language proficiency (B2–C1 CEFR), gain knowledge in linguistics, literary history, and literary interpretation, and explore the relationship between language, culture, and society. 

As a major, English offers a varied and soundly based program that unifies the study of composition, language, and literature. It prepares the student for a career in business, communications media, teaching, and for advanced study in graduate and professional schools. It is truly a versatile major.

Students who already have a BA degree in the humanities or social sciences and speak English at least at C1 level can apply to this two- or four-semester programme providing training in the different aspects - language, history, culture, politics, diversity - of American Studies.

This interdisciplinary programme deepens students’ knowledge of English linguistics, literature, and the cultures of Anglophone countries. It offers advanced training in literature, linguistics, translation, interpreting, and intercultural communication, preparing graduates for careers in public service, international organizations, media, culture, and education.

The interuniversity master's degree in advanced English studies and its applications brings together the studies of language, literature and culture from two English-speaking countries in three Galician universities (UDC, USC and UVigo) and offers advanced training in important topics in this field of study.

Liberal Studies (LBS) is an interdisciplinary undergraduate major for students who intend to become elementary and special education teachers or to pursue related graduate work. Courses leading to the B.A. in Liberal Studies focus on the subject areas taught in elementary schools as well as professional preparation and early fieldwork. LBS is a California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) approved Elementary Subject Matter Preparation Program (ESM). LBS also offers two Integrated Teacher Education Programs (ITEP) in which students earn a B.A. and a credential for teaching elementary school (multiple subjects) or special education (education specialist mild/moderate).

The program is good choice for students interested in the history, civilization and culture of English speaking countries as well as the scientific investigation of the different areas - pronunciation, sentence structure, language varieties, language policy - of the English language.

The third-degree (PhD) study programme in English Language and Anglophone Cultures builds on the bachelor’s and master’s levels and focuses on advanced research and interdisciplinary expertise in English philology within an intercultural and globalized context.

The program leading to the Master of Arts Degree in English is a 30-semester-unit curriculum. Opportunities for emphasis in British literature, American literature, rhetoric and composition, and Teaching English as a Second Language exist in a flexible curriculum.

The Intensive English program of UWF is designed to prepare international students for successful study at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The talented teaching staff focuses on improving students’ ability to speak, listen, read, and write comprehensively in English. The program also focuses on the requirements for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), which is required to study at many American universities.

The aim of the program is to train competent, academically literate professionals well-versed in the fundamental aspects of the English language, including an ability to provide linguistic analyses, as well as in both the historical and the synchronic aspects of Anglophone cultures and literatures.

It involves the study of a single language and literature chosen from French, English, German, Swedish, Spanish, Portuguese, Anglo-American and Hispanic-American. It aims to improve knowledge of languages, cultures and literatures in their geographical and cultural dimensions connected to the history of colonization and the processes of globalization.
