Graduates from Power Engineering are prepared for creative work and research within the field of process control in the power industry and in related industries. They can develop techniques of energy conversion and maintain power systems. They can also perform modernization of machines, implement new technologies, as well as establish and manage small enterprises in power energy sectors. Graduates are prepared to undertake Ph.D. studies in power engineering and in other related fields.

Specialization: Energy Technologies. The program of the studies allows the students to obtain detailed theoretical knowledge as well as the practical expertise of different aspects related to Power Engineering, Energy Technologies, and Energy Conservation, taking into account design, production, exploitation, diagnostics, and maintenance of power and heat plants, power transmission systems and energy distribution installations. The program is based on the CDIO (Conceive - Design - Implement - Operate) Concept emphasizing design issues.

Graduates from Nuclear Power Engineering possess a vast knowledge of general mathematics, thermodynamics, mechanics of solids, mechanics of fluids, environment protection, thermal engineering, turbomachinery, conventional and renewable power technologies, and socioeconomics.

Graduates from the Power Engineering program have wide knowledge in the area of thermal engineering, electrical power engineering, information technologies, and economics.

Students will gain interdisciplinary knowledge covering all fields of green technology and environmental monitoring. In the Master’s course, students will gain specialist knowledge in the fields of green and environmental technologies, analytical chemistry, and methods. The course highlights “skills” in the fields of environmental contamination monitoring and remediation technologies.

Students will gain practical as well as theoretical knowledge covering all fields of green and new technologies and environmental analysis and monitoring. The students will have a solid understanding of environmental and analytical chemistry, ecology, and process engineering. The course will focus on hands-on laboratory experience and skill-set-based engineering project work.

The aim of the studies is for students to acquire knowledge in the field of production and use of renewable energy in the spirit of sustainable development. This is an extremely important and forward-looking direction of thinking; Currently, the energy transformation is taking place all over the world, including in Poland. As research shows, if we do not decarbonize the energy sector within two decades and do not carry out the energy transformation towards renewable energy sources, the costs of inaction will be twice as high as the price of such modernization. However, for this transformation to take place, specialists are needed who are aware of the importance of the problem, but also have design and technological competences.

A graduate has the knowledge and skills in designing, testing, and operating power plants using non-conventional energy sources in a wide spectrum of degrees of conversion and energy storage methods.

During the first semester of their studies, students learn theoretical knowledge of energy systems in cities and buildings, as well as computer analysis and design methods. Classes are conducted in the form of lectures, practical exercises, and laboratories. Upon successful completion of this stage of the program, they receive a certificate confirming the acquired knowledge. In the second semester, they apply this knowledge to solve engineering problems with modern tools and methods.

Graduates of the Renewable Energy Sources and Waste Management course have profound knowledge of the technical tasks of engineering and environmental management in the area of RES & WM. They have theoretically founded thorough knowledge of RES & WM, including engineering design of equipment, installations, and structures designed to generate energy from renewable sources, and of waste management issues.

The students of the programme can spend the full duration of the studies at Wrocław University of Science and Technology or benefit from the Double-Degree option. The DD option is a proposal for a limited number of the best applicants. After having spent one year in Wrocław, the students are sent for the remaining year to the Otto-von-Guericke Universität Magdeburg, Germany. They can choose the double degree option with Irkutsk National Research Technical University in Russia or with the University of Palermo (UNIPA), Italy.

In the field of Power Engineering, there are first-cycle (engineering) studies in full-time (day) and part-time (extramural). After completing the 7-semester studies, the graduate receives the professional title of an engineer.

Estimating the carbon footprint is one of the instruments widely used in reporting, among others: ESG, but also when determining the ETS, ETS-2, which, in accordance with the adopted European regulations, cover an increasingly wider spectrum of economic activities from year to year. BREEAM and LEED certification, which are becoming a standard of modern architecture, will also require calculating the carbon footprint of the building.

The course consists of three semesters. In the first semester the basic subjects are included (e.g. Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Power Plant Technology and Numerical Methods among others). The second semester is dedicated to the Directional Subjects (e.g. Computational Structural Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics) and specialization subjects depending on the selected module.
