The program in PhD in Psychology offers graduates in psychology, biology, medicine, and other social sciences the opportunity to broaden their theoretical and practical knowledge to achieve new scientific results. Courses will cover but will be not limited to, topics such as social cognition and social representation, psychophysiological measurements, and qualitative and quantitative research methods.

This programme is interested in how the principles and practices within transpersonal psychology and allied disciplines find expression in real-world applications, and our faculty can supervise research projects on transpersonal psychology topics within fields such as social change, sustainability, therapy/coaching, business/human resource management, research/education, and health/social care.

The PhD degree is conferred by virtue of a thesis.

Doctoral study is designed as a preparation of researchers in the field of educational and school psychology, who will participate in the development of psychological theory and research through independent creative activities. The doctoral study will deepen the knowledge in the field with the application of Czech and foreign knowledge and research results will further extend the methodological and research skills and competencies of doctoral students, as well as presentation skills, with an emphasis on educational and school psychology, other psychological disciplines and social sciences. The focus of the doctoral study is the dissertation, which has the character of the original scientific work. Through the dissertation thesis of the empirical-theoretical or theoretical research, the doctoral student gains new knowledge on the studied topic and thus enriches its scientific description and conceptualization. The dissertation is involved in the development of the field in the national and international context. The aim of the study is to prepare researchers who, in the case of a further academic career at the university, get involved in pedagogic, scientific and research activities in educational and school psychology, possibly also in related psychological disciplines and other social sciences; in case of practical psychological activity the workers will theorize the given field and encompass it into a broader professional context. It is a program without specialization.

This PhD Program in Emotion Psychology (the study of affective processes such as emotions, mood, feelings and its relation to attention, memory, decision, reasoning, creativity) is innovative and unique in Europe and combines knowledge brought by Psychology and several other fields of Science to provide an updated solid theoretical and methodological background in the study of emotional processes. It meets the exponentially growing interest of the last couple of decades in Emotion after the findings that emotion is key to decision-making and that affective processes in the brain create an implicit layer of influence on the most varied aspects of human mental activity, behaviour, and creations. A strong branch of research is focusing on emotion regulation and positive emotions, forming a strong basis for applied interventions towards psychological well-being and health as well as the betterment of the workplace, education, and human developmental contexts.
