Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Informatics. McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics at UTHealth Houston, formerly UTHealth Houston School of Biomedical Informatics (SBMI) offers a full time a doctoral program in Biomedical Informatics that is designed to be inherently trans-disciplinary and integrative. Involving students with a variety of backgrounds, the program emphasizes fundamental informatics concepts that can apply to all health disciplines. The program is only offered on a full-time and on-campus basis. Students usually take five years to complete this 93-semester credit hours program.

The doctoral study program Veterinary Public Health, Forensic Veterinary Medicine and Toxicology is an academically focused study program, corresponding to the current state and level of science and the needs of practice in Europe. Graduates of the doctoral study Veterinary Public Health, Forensic Veterinary Medicine and Toxicology gained in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired through independent creative activity and the acquisition of new scientific knowledge in the field of study. Graduates can actively share their knowledge in the field of study at the international level and publicly. Based on this qualification, graduates are mainly employed at research institutions and universities.

The Doctoral Program in Pathology and Molecular Genetics (PDPGM) offers advanced training in pathology and molecular genetics. The Doctoral Program in Basic and Applied Research in Veterinary Sciences, proposes advanced and specialized training in the body of conceptual, procedural and technical knowledge that allows adequate development in the field of biomedical sciences. This Program is characterized by its interdisciplinarity, covering basic, applied and clinical areas. It has the participation of different research groups that develop their activity in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

The program promotes research excellence and educates students on the scientific frontiers and advanced methodologies at the vanguard of interconnected issues related to Climate and Atmospheric Sciences, Energy, Hydrology, Sustainable Built Environment, and Sustainable Policy.

The Doctoral Program in Rehabilitation Sciences (PDCR) has as major aim to prepare students with advanced and integrative training in Rehabilitation, and place the student at the forefront of Health Sciences (HS) research. The training offered is oriented towards the current requirements in health-related fields, including Precision Medicine, and to technologically advanced domains. We expect to develop innovative conceptual and methodological tools that response to HS societal challenges. The PDCR also capacitates students to communicate and transfer scientific knowledge and expertise between the academia and healthcare institutions, to invigorate the Health sector. In order to do so, the PDCR has a group of core common courses that provide competences in HS research, a group of specialized ones on advanced formation on Rehabilitation; and a set of optional curricular units that enables the student to develop a curricular path more adapted to its interests. The PDCR lecturing languages are Portuguese and English.

The PhD programme in Health Sciences is a structured research education and consists of independent research work with a doctoral thesis (150 credits) and a training component (30 credits). The programme is standardized to a three-year duration, extended to four years for mandatory duties. Part-time study is possible, with a requirement that at least 50% of the working hours will be dedicated to the PhD programme.

The TEAM Ph.D. is a true crossroad at Sant'Anna, being participated by all Institu- tes (Biorobotics, DIRPOLIS, Life Sciences, Management, Economics, Mechanical Intelligence, TECIP) testifying to the global effort of the Institution. Doctoral training at the School of Chemistry and Environmental Sciences aims to educate specialists capable of independent and creative work in key areas of chemistry and environmental science, in line with the needs of a market economy. The programme provides a strong foundation for obtaining a doctoral degree.

The Doctoral School has eight Ph.D. programs that encompass all the branches and interfaces of forestry and wildlife management sciences. Education and research at the Doctoral School are pursued in the basic and applied sciences, related to forests, wildlife, and nature. The knowledge and the degree gained at the Doctoral School are a good reference when applying for leading positions in higher education institutions, research institutes, forestry, wildlife management, and conservation.

The Doctorate in Educational Sciences and Psychology trains research professionals in the public and private sectors, with a focus on socio-educational and vocational education and training. The three-year program includes methodological and interdisciplinary training designed to develop aptitude for empirical research in educational and psychological settings.
