The mission of the Mina and Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences is to impart biological knowledge and scientific education based on modern research. In addition to imparting knowledge, we strive to arouse the curiosity of our students and to cultivate their intellectual and cultural growth.

The doctoral study program Veterinary Ecology and Wildlife Diseases is an academically focused study program, corresponding to the current state and level of science and the needs of practice in Europe. Graduates of the doctoral study Veterinary Ecology and Wildlife Diseases gained in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired through independent creative activity and the acquisition of new scientific knowledge in the field of study. Graduates can actively share their knowledge in the field of study at the international level and publicly. Based on this qualification, graduates are mainly employed at research institutions and universities.

The PhD program in Engineering Science covers fields of study at all institutes within the faculty. Our researchers and research groups collaborate directly with industry and other research environments. We integrate sustainable principles in the development and improvement of technologies and solutions, including, but not limited to; energy and efficiency, building and infrastructure, production and logistics, product design, geometric analysis and computations.

How did such an astounding variety of living things evolve on Earth? What makes these bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals? How do living things differ from nonliving things? Part of these questions form the basics of biology and life sciences. We are also living organisms and we have evolved in response to the same basic set of chemical elements. We all share the same processes that allow us to survive. This program explains biological concepts and offers a unified presentation of life and its variation through evolution.

The PhD in Public Health Sciences, specialization in Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences program at the University of Louisville, School of Public Health and Information Sciences is designed to prepare students for careers in higher education, upper-level management positions in government and private nonprofit health agencies, and research positions with universities, government agencies and in the private sector.

The Doctoral Program in Biomedical Sciences (PDCB), established in 1986, offers advanced training in Biomedicine with a focus on Biological, Medical, and Health Sciences. It provides flexible, individualized training through expert guidance, ensuring both specific and transversal skills to students ranging from recent graduates to professionals.

The PhD in Veterinary Sciences offers advanced training through research, combining rigorous coursework with supervision from nationally and internationally recognized researchers. It emphasizes applied teaching, clinical practice, and business collaboration, fostering fundamental and applied research in both basic and clinical sciences. The program encourages knowledge exchange and provides access to top-tier R&D units and a global network of researchers.

The Doctoral Program in Pathology and Molecular Genetics (PDPGM) offers advanced training in pathology and molecular genetics. Targeted at young graduates or those with a master's in life and health sciences, it focuses on basic and translational research, as well as molecular diagnostics in biopathology. Graduates will be equipped to lead scientific research

The PhD in Clinical Sciences offers doctoral training programs in basic and translational research, under the supervision of faculty and researchers working in various fields of clinical medicine, psychology, and various fields of experimental medicine related to translation into the clinical setting.

The Doctoral Program in Basic and Applied Research in Veterinary Sciences, proposes advanced and specialized training in the body of conceptual, procedural and technical knowledge that allows adequate development in the field of biomedical sciences. This Program is characterized by its interdisciplinarity, covering basic, applied and clinical areas. It has the participation of different research groups that develop their activity in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

The program promotes research excellence and educates students on the scientific frontiers and advanced methodologies at the vanguard of interconnected issues related to Climate and Atmospheric Sciences, Energy, Hydrology, Sustainable Built Environment, and Sustainable Policy.

The Doctoral Program in Rehabilitation Sciences (PDCR) has as major aim to prepare students with advanced and integrative training in Rehabilitation, and place the student at the forefront of Health Sciences (HS) research. The training offered is oriented towards the current requirements in health-related fields, including Precision Medicine, and to technologically advanced domains. We expect to develop innovative conceptual and methodological tools that response to HS societal challenges. The PDCR also capacitates students to communicate and transfer scientific knowledge and expertise between the academia and healthcare institutions, to invigorate the Health sector. In order to do so, the PDCR has a group of core common courses that provide competences in HS research, a group of specialized ones on advanced formation on Rehabilitation; and a set of optional curricular units that enables the student to develop a curricular path more adapted to its interests. The PDCR lecturing languages are Portuguese and English.

The PhD programme in Health Sciences is a structured research education and consists of independent research work with a doctoral thesis (150 credits) and a training component (30 credits). The programme is standardized to a three-year duration, extended to four years for mandatory duties. Part-time study is possible, with a requirement that at least 50% of the working hours will be dedicated to the PhD programme.

The TEAM Ph.D. is a true crossroad at Sant'Anna, being participated by all Institu- tes (Biorobotics, DIRPOLIS, Life Sciences, Management, Economics, Mechanical Intelligence, TECIP) testifying to the global effort of the Institution. The challenges to be faced are numerous- and among these is the ability of the HS to continuously be resilient in emergency health situations, as is the case for the COVID-19 pandemic.

The final thesis of this doctoral programme should cover mental, emotional and spiritual connections with various pathological states and how they are overcome. In addition to developing methodologies for the use of various natural medicines, the candidate should indicate the new and important perspective of life force and its role in the healing process, when used together with the principles of natural health sciences.

Doctoral training at the School of Chemistry and Environmental Sciences aims to educate specialists capable of independent and creative work in key areas of chemistry and environmental science, in line with the needs of a market economy. The programme provides a strong foundation for obtaining a doctoral degree.
