47 Doctoral Degree Programs in Hungary

The Doctoral School of PhD in Earth Sciences offers a four-year training and research program in various fields of geography, geology, and meteorology. Students can choose from a wide selection of research topics from the three subprograms of Physical geography, geology, and meteorology; Human geography; Geopolitics, Geo-economics, and political geography. Outstanding students can obtain a Ph.D. degree after completing their studies and research activities. The program began in 1994 and since then more than 100 researchers have received their Ph.D. degrees and joined the alumni network of the Doctoral School.

This programme is designed to unify the basic and clinical sciences, as it is believed that scientific and professional development cannot be separated but should proceed concurrently throughout the programme.

PhD in Public Administration Sciences: The Doctoral School of Public Administration Sciences was established in 2013. Currently, it is the only doctoral school specializing in the field of public administration in Hungary. The aim of the Doctoral School’s program is to provide postgraduate-level education to professionals (researchers and practitioners) working in the field public administration.

The students receive strong theoretical, research methodology, and scientific backgrounds, and complete their research individually, with some guidance from their supervisors. Supervision is offered by the top experts and wood scientists in Hungary. The topics are typically linked to industrial research or innovation projects so that Sopron doctoral graduates have not only strong theoretical backgrounds but are very practical scientists as well.

The Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Pécs established its International Ph.D. Program in Regional Development for professionals who have collected several years of experience in their field working at national, regional, and local levels of decision-making or at think-tank organizations. The International Ph.D. The program in Regional Development belongs to the Doctoral School of Regional Policy and Economics and as such, it is a nationally accredited doctoral program in Hungary.

The first two years of the General Medicine program serve as the foundation of basic medical knowledge. After the third year training is extended with regular clinical practice, in which students actively participate in the work of clinical departments and teaching hospitals.

Doctoral training at the School of Chemistry and Environmental Sciences aims to educate specialists capable of independent and creative work in key areas of chemistry and environmental science, in line with the needs of a market economy. The programme provides a strong foundation for obtaining a doctoral degree.

The Doctoral School of Biology and Spotbiology provides PhD in Biology in wide range fields of biology and sportbiology including genetics, microbiology, plant biology, ecology, regulatory biology, fitness, stress, sport and immune system. Excellently equipped laboratories are available in the biology departments and at the Szentágothai Research Center of UP, as well as at the Balaton Limnological Institute. By international contacts we give opportunity to our PhD students to mobility.

The primary task of the Doctoral School is to provide educational programs in PhD in Architectural Engineering of a high standard in accordance with the requirements of the Bologna system to those leading architects with an MSc or MA degree, as well as to those with an MA or MSc degree in an architecture-related field.

The International PhD in Business Administration is aimed at professionals in business or public administration with several years of experience in their field, but not necessarily in research or education. The program combines the advantages of contact-based and distance-based education, drawing on the contribution of recognized national and international experts. In its design, the program combines two major international traditions in doctoral education such as the American tradition (where several years of formal education is needed to get the Ph.D.) and the European tradition (with a usually limited number of classes and a strong emphasis on independent dissertation research).

This program in Doctor of Pharmacy in Englishprovides complete theoretical and practical training in pharmacy. The holder of the degree is entitled to bear the doctoral title (Dr. Pharm). The Hungarian pharmacist MSc diploma is internationally accepted in the EU and in several other countries, international regulations may require pharmacists - similarly to other professionals - professional and/or language examination, practical training, studies, etc. for licensure.

The Doctoral School has eight Ph.D. programs that encompass all the branches and interfaces of forestry and wildlife management sciences. Education and research at the Doctoral School are pursued in the basic and applied sciences, related to forests, wildlife, and nature. The knowledge and the degree gained at the Doctoral School are a good reference when applying for leading positions in higher education institutions, research institutes, forestry, wildlife management, and conservation.
