13 Humanities Doctoral Degree Programs in Spain

The Doctorate in Medieval Studies is a unique offer at SUG and constitutes a novel alternative in the field of Humanities. Its main objective is to provide students with interdisciplinary and transversal training, so that they acquire the highest level of professional and research training.

Upon successful completion of the study program students receive an international private Doctorate in Global Studies degree awarded by the school's headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, based on the recommendation of the faculty of the local campuses where credits were earned.

The Doctoral Program in Literature and Cultural Studies is characterized by an emphasis on literary studies from different methodological and linguistic perspectives, with an openness towards cultural analysis. Among the previous programs that are part of this new proposal are the Theory of Literature and Comparative Literature, originally linked to a Mundus Master, and the Study and Annotation of Spanish Literary Texts. Likewise, other programs are incorporated that are registered in the fields of Latin, Greek, Italian, French, Galician, Portuguese and German philology.

Galicia demands in the current situation a specific program in English Studies that has the active participation of teachers from the three Galician universities in a common project for the training of doctors in the main lines of research within this field of knowledge: culture and English and North American literary texts, other English-language literatures, English linguistics in its synchronic and diachronic aspects, and linguistics applied to the teaching of English and to translation.

The aim of this program is to address in an interdisciplinary way, on the one hand basic research on cultural theory, and on the other, sociocultural research applied to contemporary globality, among which the relationships between memories, landscapes, migrations, identities, rights stand out. human, cultural creations and movements, these issues being approached from interdisciplinary perspectives that bring together researchers from the fields: Social and Cultural Anthropology, Political Science, Literary Studies, Philosophy, Human Geography, History, History of the Arts, Linguistics and Sociology.

Contemporary History is a fully consolidated area in university teaching and research. Beyond the limits of the Humanities, it also has a growing recognition and notorious interest among scientists and professionals in the macro-scientific-social area. This is because of its ability to explain recent times and, consequently, provide that repository of essential experiences to be able to understand the present and face decision-making, as well as to contribute to forging collective memory, an essential ingredient of social cohesion. Therefore, the significance of Contemporary History in the articulation of current societies is beyond doubt.

It is an interuniversity doctoral program specialized in the area of Logic and Philosophy of Science, carried out by institutions of recognized national and international excellence. His lines of research are: argumentation and logic, philosophy of language and mind, philosophy of science, and social studies of science and technology.

This program brings together the teams and researchers that form the reference nucleus of linguistic studies in the Galician University System, with researchers from different areas of knowledge and from different languages in the same lines of research. This cooperation between different areas and disciplines allows us to offer a more open training, with theoretical approaches and current methodologies, as well as allowing working with different languages. It also has the collaboration of a significant number of international relief experts.

The doctoral program in "Texts of Classical Antiquity and its Survival" is an interuniversity program in which the universities of Salamanca, Valladolid and Santiago de Compostela collaborate. It gives continuity to an official Postgraduate program that since 2006 the universities of Salamanca and Valladolid have been maintaining, with the corresponding adaptations to the legal situation, which repeatedly obtained the mention of excellence and a doctorate in Classical Philology from the USC.

The Doctoral Program in History, Geography and History of Art, aims to complete the training needs of doctoral students, their methodological updating and initiation to research through the completion of the Doctoral Thesis. Doctoral students are offered training that enables them to carry out basic and applied research.

The Faculty of Philosophy of the USC has been teaching for more than two decades a doctoral program that, although its name has changed slightly (Current Questions of Philosophy, Philosophy, Philosophy: Current Questions), has as fundamental objectives to train students to research and train students in the various burning questions of contemporary philosophy.
