7 Humanities Doctoral Degree Programs in Hungary

The structure of the PhD in Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences of the Medical Faculty is similar to those of most European and American universities. The doctoral (PhD) degree, as the highest qualification attainable at university, is confer- red by the University of Pécs on those who have given evidence of having acquired sufficient practical skills and theoretical knowledge to conduct scientific research independently.

The Doctoral School of Military Sciences has a wide spectrum of research fields: Security Studies, Social Aspects of Defence Studies, General Military Theory, Theories of Military Science, Defence Logistics and Defence Economics, National Security and Theory of Defence Information Technology and Communication.

The Doctoral School focuses on multilingualism, studying how multiple languages coexist within individuals, societies, and schools. We welcome applicants interested in researching multilingual people and communities, as well as language teachers aiming to improve language teaching and learning through evidence-based academic research.

The Program in PhD in British, Irish, and American Literatures in English comprises two phases, the first of which consists of three modules: core curriculum courses in the fields of literary theory, cultural studies, and a literary history stretching over the first three semesters; teaching, tutoring, mentoring, and other department-related activities (second and third semesters); individual research for the thesis (continuous) and revision for the final exam (fourth semester). Having earned the required credits and passed the final exam, students enter the second phase, wherein they are required to finish their theses with the help of their supervisors, and submit it two years after their final exam. The program is thus divided into two years of coursework and two years of research and writing, with tutors helping candidates all along on their way toward receiving their PhDs.

Main research areas: Artificial intelligence, digital reality, discrete mathematics & optimization, dynamic systems & control, image & signal processing, medical & health informatics. PhD students conduct independent research under a professor, present at conferences, participate in projects, and must publish at least two papers in refereed international journals.

The Cultural Heritage Management Postgraduate Specialization is the first of its kind in Hungary.
