7 Economics Doctoral Degree Programs in Czech Republic

CERGE-EI (Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education - Economics Institute) is a joint workplace of Charles University and the Economics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

The doctoral programme in PhD in Economics welcomes all qualified applicants with Master´s degrees who have a strong interest in economic theory, econometric modelling and applied economics. Graduates will be equipped with advanced knowledge of the history of economics, micro- and macroeconomics, international economics, and economic policy, and also important research skills for becoming a successful researcher.

The doctoral study program in Economics and Management is aimed at educating professionals who are able to carry out internationally competitive research on real and current problems in areas related to business administration and management. The students acquire high-level expertise in qualitative and quantitative methods of economic analysis, economics and financial markets, modern research methods and business management.

The Ph.D. program concentrates on economic theory and its applications in economic and financial analyses. The program focuses on the modeling and analyses of economic processes and the behavior of economic agents, using modern microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, econometrics, and finance. The doctoral program aims to prepare highly qualified and trained experts for academia, international organizations, the financial sector as well as other industries.

The program is based on a mathematical background, which involves probability theory, stochastic processes, mathematical and computational statistics, optimization, econometrics, operational research, financial and insurance mathematics. The connected creative work is represented especially by the basic mathematical research, and partly by applications, e.g. in finance and insurance. The doctoral students enhance their knowledge in advanced courses and seminars, according to their individual study plans. Under the supervision of their advisor, they provide research work on a given topic and publish their results and present them at scientific conferences. The study branch will prepare experts who can become successors of faculty professors, others will profit from their mathematical thought in practice.

PhD in Economy Management in Economy and Management allows by its structure and content focus to link to the knowledge gained from a master's degree. It is a major research-oriented knowledge and skill associated with the study of many subjects that are tied to the functional areas of business systems.

It is supposed that the graduate masters the theoretical foundations of the study area, the basic methods of scientific work in the field of study and the basic forms of permanent collection of worldwide knowledge in the field of study for lifelong learning. Graduates are supposed to be able to design descriptive and normative economic models of economic processes at the macro and microeconomic level and collect relevant documents needed for their formalization. Furthermore, the ability of generalization of scientific knowledge into the form of economic laws is assumed together with their application in the interpretation of specific economic tasks to promote sustainable development.
