CERGE-EI (Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education - Economics Institute) is a joint workplace of Charles University and the Economics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

The doctoral study program Animal Husbandry, Animal Nutrition, and Biochemistry is an academically focused study program, corresponding to the current state and level of science and the needs of practice in Europe. Graduates of the doctoral study Animal Husbandry, Animal Nutrition and Biochemistry gained in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired through independent creative activity and the acquisition of new scientific knowledge in the field of study. Graduates can share actively their knowledge in the field of study at the international level and publicly. Based on this qualification, graduates are mainly employed at research institutions and universities.

Joint program with the Slavic Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, a public scientific institution. Training takes place in Russian.

The study program investigates the mechanisms of immune responses at the cellular and molecular level, under normal and pathological conditions. The study program is carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Molecular Genetics and the Institute of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.

The curriculum of the study programme General Medicine is identical to the one pursued by Czech medical students, apart from being taught in English. It conforms to the European Union standards, and is also accredited by the Association of Medical Schools in Europe (AMSE).

Homologous and heterogeneous gene expression and its regulation, gene manipulation industrial strain of microorganisms, degree of ribosomal biosynthesis of proteins. The goal of the doctoral study program Didactics of Chemistry is to prepare specialists to improve the quality of chemical education in the Czech Republic in accordance with current social needs and in accordance with the educational programs of advanced European countries based on scientific research results. The doctoral program is focused on the preparation of specialists in the field of chemical education theory in accordance with current knowledge of chemistry, pedagogy, psychology, sociology, informatics, and other disciplines. The subject of the study program within the concept of the complex biomedical fields is the issue of physical processes in a living organism, the influence of physical factors on living organisms, and the use of modern physical methods in biomedical fields. Biophysics, as an interdisciplinary field, offers doctoral (Ph.D.) study to university graduates of various specializations (medicine, natural sciences, mathematics, physics, etc.). The study program is carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.

Functionally defined discipline that studies regulatory functions of organs in response and adaptation of specific systems of the organism to changes in external and internal environment in normal and pathological states. There is the dominance of transition from studies of indirect manifestations of certain functions to studies of their own functional and regulatory mechanisms at the cellular and molecular level in order to use the acquired knowledge for the prevention, diagnosis, and therapy of human diseases. The study program is carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.

Neuroscience occupies a special position in the system of scientific fields due to the high specificity of functional neural tissue that significantly differs from other tissues in almost all observable parameters at all levels. Added to this are the enormous heterogeneity in functional neuronal population and the fact that one of the cardinal functional manifestations of the outer world is a reflection of mental activity. Neuroscience brings together a range of sub-disciplines as neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neurochemistry, neurology, neurosurgery, and psychiatry. The study program is carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Experimental Medicine and the Institute of Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. This program of study is offered without specialization.

The Ph.D. graduate has in-depth theoretical knowledge in all principal fields of Egyptology and a detailed overview and an up-to-date understanding of the current state of research and associated problems. On the basis of the upheld Ph.D. dissertation, he/she is able to demonstrate exceptional quality in his/her specific specialization. The scholarly, language and analytical proficiency and skills of the graduate make him/her fully equipped for a professional scholarly and pedagogic pursuit on an international level. The Ph.D. graduate may be employed in many top-rated institutions centered on the study of antiquity, as well as on the level of effective top executives in institutions partaking in cultural, political, economic or trade relations between the Czech Republic and Egypt.

Graduates are highly qualified specialists in literary and cultural studies focused on English-speaking countries, especially the literature and cultures on the British Isles and in North America. They have a good command of theoretical and methodological approaches, are able to conduct independent research and to teach literary and cultural histories of the United Kingdom, USA, Ireland and other English-speaking countries, and related literary and cultural courses, at tertiary level. They can participate in team research projects and work in international research teams. Czech graduates have a good command of the terminology and style of the discipline in their mother tongue and possess basic knowledge of the reception of Anglophone literature in Czech culture.

Graduates have in-depth theoretical knowledge of the key areas related to the description of human speech and the sound patterns of Czech; in the area of the dissertation, they are very well acquainted with the current state-of-the-art, which includes the knowledge of both primary and secondary sources.

Pharmacology and Toxicology are research topics that investigate the mechanisms of interaction of substances and medicaments with biological systems and track their positive and negative consequences for the organism. The final goal is to use this knowledge in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of human and animal diseases. The research subject encompasses the study of both processes from the molecular level to affect the entire body and also research into clinical practice in patients. The determination of the latest research methods allows for interdisciplinary research at the receptor level, messenger systems, and transmission of genetic information. Created new disciplines such as pharmaco-biochemistry, pharmaco-genetics, pharmaco-economy, and others. The big advantage of pharmacology and toxicology studies is a close connection of the theoretical field with all the clinical fields that perform the treatment, prevention, and diagnostic. The study program in pharmacology and toxicology is therefore suitable not only for those interested in experimental research but also for those who plan their clinical work in the future. The study program is carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Experimental Medicine, the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, and the Institute of Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.

The doctoral study program Area Studies focuses on various aspects of the contemporary (since 1990) development of Europe and North America, as well as on theoretical and methodological issues in the field of Area Studies.

The Doctoral Program in Modern History presents its Ph.D. students with the possibility of undertaking original research on topics dealing with Europe and North America in the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, as well as relationships between the two continents.
