A Diploma in Social Service Worker assists individuals who are experiencing social and personal challenges. Community Worker is a dynamic program designed to prepare you to work with individuals, organizations, and communities. You'll learn to work across a range of issues including social justice, poverty, housing, violence, food justice, immigration, and settlement in ways that are responsive to their multiple and changing needs. There is also an accelerated program stream available that is suitable for students with an existing diploma or degree.

The two-year Community and Justice Services Ontario College Diploma program emphasizes alternatives to policing and prisons and teaches students skills to work with people and communities to address issues such as criminalization, poverty, affordable housing scarcity, food insecurity, and immigration.

As a Diploma in Developmental Services Worker (DSW), you will assist people with disabilities to live as valued, contributing members of the community. By providing support and advocacy, you will work towards full inclusion for the betterment of the entire community. The program curriculum promotes individualized and inclusive approaches, reflective of innovative practices in the field.

This Community Services course provide a comprehensive knowledge along with hands-on experiences in the community service area. It helps students to find jobs in the roles of community services, case management and social housing workers involved in the managing, co-ordinating and/or delivering of person-centred services. At this level, workers have specialised skills in community services and work autonomously under broad directions from senior management.

The Diploma of Community Services package is comprised of the two-year Diploma of Community Services course, with the option to progress to a Bachelor of Social Work with Honours at the University of Tasmania. TasTAFE teachers will negotiate and arrange work placements and or work placement projects with Community organizations for students.

The Community Services Worker Gerontology Program prepares graduates to work with programs in support of older adults. Students learn to be valuable members of care service teams and develop effective working relationships towards quality client care. They administer and implement a variety of social assistance programs and community services, and assist clients to deal with personal and social problems. With the aging population, there is a great need in Ontario for such workers.
