This is a course in the creative and critical practice of photography. You will be encouraged to develop your own visual practice through an appreciation of the history of the medium as well as a critical understanding of it's wider social and cultural significance. You will also explore a wide range of relevant contemporary theories and debates designed both to stimulate a critically engaged practice and to better prepare you for a range of related careers. The Level 2 in Art and Design Photography course is a general art and design program aimed at young people who have a specific interest in developing photography skills. The core units in this course are general art and design-focused, so all students will be expected to develop their drawing skills, research artists' and designers' work and develop a portfolio of work and sketchbooks. As the course develops students will then develop more specialist skills as an introduction to photography. This will include darkroom skills, digital photography, and photographic manipulation using a range of creative techniques.

Exploring both traditional and digital photography, you will produce work which will show your development and understanding of photography, learn how to use SLR/digital cameras, how the studio works, develop black and white film, darkroom skills and various Photoshop techniques.
