OCAD University’s MA in Contemporary Art, Design and New Media Art Histories are unique in Canada in its focus on contemporary art, design and media production and theory. In this interdisciplinary program, you’ll engage with contemporary issues and works, while drawing on theoretical frameworks, historical contexts, and creative precedents that have shaped today’s visual and critical landscape. The Bachelor of Design is a four-year degree in visual design with a complement of courses in entrepreneurship, marketing, and management. The program will ensure you have creative and visual acuity, and the knowledge of business strategy necessary to create design solutions for current and developing market needs.

Throughout the Master International Design Strategy / China Studio students will learn to decipher the local behaviors and understand the Chinese market to offer a coherent project, adapted to users, with an anthropological approach to design. The Interdisciplinary Master’s in Art, Media, and Design (IAMD) draws experienced artists and designers from around the world, encouraging them to investigate and produce works that combine art, design, writing, and interdisciplinary academic study to create new forms of visual and social research and creative production. Each student’s primary discipline and chosen emphasis among art, design, or media practice and theoretical inquiry will determine whether the degree earned is an MFA, MDes, or MA. This international Design Strategy program offers a tremendous opportunity for international design students to discover and comprehend French culture. It follows a different rhythm, adapted to the students integrating the school at a postgraduate level, to allow a good integration and a better approach of the methodology as taught in the school.

This French-language Master is deliberately professional and is halfway between a work-study program and academic training: students are integrated into start-ups. The goal of this program is to immerse students in the world of technology entrepreneurship in order to understand its workings and particularities. Students are hosted in North American incubators and work in an international context. Topics covered Cultural immersion; Technological entrepreneurship; and Creative Industries.

Located in the heart of a downtown campus, the Brazil Studio offers a bilingual program that allows an accelerated acculturation to the Portuguese language and the Brazilian context.

The Bachelor of Environmental Design (BEnvD) program is a strong multidisciplinary undergraduate degree that provides a solid base of design education for students intending to pursue careers or graduate studies in a wide variety of disciplines, including the Faculty’s master’s degrees in Architecture, City Planning, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture, and at other institutions globally.

In this degree, you are introduced to new ways of seeing and thinking about design. Through a balance of practice-based, hands-on research and theory-driven coursework, you learn to solve communication problems through effective design. You can focus on visual communication design or digital experience design or create a pathway that suits your interests.

The General route is the most flexible route in the Bachelor of Design program. In addition to the core Design curriculum, you’ll have the opportunity to select options from the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Science. You can also combine Visual Communication Design and Industrial Design courses with Fine Arts courses and options to gain experience in a variety of disciplines.

In AMPD’s Department of Design, students actively explore and expand the boundaries of design in managing and communicating complex bodies of information for meaningful human experiences in our increasingly visual world.

The Object Design and Fabrication Minor goes beyond delivering proficiencies in digital fabrication technologies. In addition to the core OBDF courses, electives have been selected for this Minor from programs throughout AUArts. These electives deepen student learning with respect to Object Design and Fabrication History, Theory and Context, Invention Literacy and Fabrication Methodologies.
