Learn the skills to bring your imagination to life in OCAD University’s new Experimental Animation program. OCAD U has a long history of graduating successful animators in art and film including George Dunning who directed The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine and Richard Williams who was animation director for Who Framed Roger Rabbit. More recently, alumni include computer animator Trudy Elmore and emerging VR artist Jawa El Khash. Shary Boyle, who represented Canada at the Venice Biennale, has achieved great success with her mesmerizing performances using hand-animated imagery. In this program, you’ll develop a personal artistic vision and push the boundaries of animation as a contemporary art form. You’ll mix traditional and digital media using 2D, 3D, stop-motion, digital compositing and augmented/virtual reality. At the end of this four-year program, you will earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Offering students a compelling array of perspectives to investigate and assess the ever-shifting worlds of contemporary art, design, and new media art. OCAD University’s MA in Contemporary Art, Design and New Media Art Histories are unique in Canada in its focus on contemporary art, design and media production and theory. In this interdisciplinary program, you’ll engage with contemporary issues and works, while drawing on theoretical frameworks, historical contexts, and creative precedents that have shaped today’s visual and critical landscape. Program facilities are located in the heart of Toronto’s arts and culture district, in close proximity to the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Design Exchange, the Textile Museum of Canada, the Gardiner Museum, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery.

The Product Design and Development program is the only one of its kind in Canada and will provide you with the unique understanding to develop high-tech, ecological and socially responsible products from concept and design to production. Combining the strengths of Centennial College's School of Communications, Media, Arts and Design and the School of Engineering Technology and Applied Science, the innovative Product Design and Development courses will bring together hands-on learning in product and industrial design and product development with product lifecycle management. Through interdisciplinary, collaborative group projects that will require you to apply all stages of the visual design process, you'll develop creative design problem-solving abilities and strategies.

In the Graphic Design program, you will learn the process of visual communication through the combo of images, photography, and text to represent ideas and messages. Some graphic design programs at other schools have a sole focus on technical skills and commercial, corporate work. OCAD U’s Graphic Design program teaches you the skills you need but also encourages you to use graphic design as an art form, to challenge barriers and create work for social good. You’ll learn how graphic design impacts society and generates dialogue. You will benefit from hands-on training, as well as theory courses that explore design as a form of expression. At the end of this four-year program, you will earn a Bachelor of Design degree.

Offering graduate students a unique opportunity to become global leaders in the emerging field of inclusive design in information and communication technologies (ICT) and practices. Inclusive Design advances accessibility, and encompasses the full range of human diversity including ability, language, culture, gender and age. Inclusive Design recognizes that we aren’t all the same. Design must be usable, flexible, and customizable among other qualities to be truly inclusive. From policies, customer service, infrastructure, technology, buildings to everyday products—we can design so that everyone can be accommodated and included.

In the Industrial Design program, you will learn how to develop new products that are used in our daily lives. These may include everything from everyday products to mobile apps. You’ll be encouraged to design sustainable products that will last many generations, keeping in mind diverse cultures. You’ll learn about research, concept development, and making prototypes, You will also study how people behave to better understand what their needs are. An important benefit of studying Industrial Design at OCAD U is that while you’re studying theory, you’ll also be able to take practical, creative hands-on courses, such as design and drawing. The Industrial Design program is recognized by the Association of Canadian Industrial Designers. At the end of this four-year program, you will earn a Bachelor of Design degree.

This undergraduate studies program in one year welcomes international students who have completed two years of design studies and wish to obtain a French Diploma, recognized by the French Ministry of Higher Education. This diploma is called DN MADE: National Diploma in Fine Art and Design.

The Graphic Design program is an ideal training ground for the design profession. As a student in the program, you will gain a strong overall understanding of design while also allowing you to select a major in either Communication Design, which prepares you for a corporate design career, or Advertising Design, which prepares you for a career in an advertising agency. In addition, design electives allow you to gain skills in areas such as illustration, motion, interaction, web, book, and environmental design.
