This course equips you with the basic practical skills and knowledge needed to start work in industries involving welding. This one year, full time course includes theory work and practical sessions in our WorldSkills standard welding workshop in our multi-million pound Construction Skills Centre. You will study units including: working in engineering, principles of engineering, principles of fabrication and welding, manual metal arc, mig welding and tig welding.

A Welding Apprenticeship Level 2 provides a structured training program for individuals interested in pursuing a career in welding. Here are the key aspects and benefits of such an apprenticeship: Practical Skills Development: Apprenticeships combine on-the-job training with classroom learning. In a welding apprenticeship, you'll gain hands-on experience in welding techniques, safety procedures, and equipment operation under the supervision of experienced professionals. You will study a Level 2 Blacksmithing and Welding qualification, and you will be able to develop your skills in welding and in the forge to have the specialist skills and knowledge in this vocational area. Throughout your studies, you can expect to learn various welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, and arc welding, as well as forging techniques in the forge. Understanding how to work with different metals, manipulate them under heat, and create intricate designs will be key components of your training.

This is a practical based Level 3 course, designed for learners who wish to progress down the apprenticeship route focussing on the development of welding skills. You will be given practical hands on experience that will support an apprenticeship or employment in industry. By studying this course you will learn about the principles of welding and engineering.

A Level 2 General Welder (Arc Processes) refers to an individual who has completed training and acquired qualifications to perform welding using arc welding processes at an introductory level. Here are key aspects related to this role: Welding Processes: The individual is trained in arc welding processes, which may include Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), commonly known as stick welding. They learn how to use welding equipment, select appropriate electrodes, and apply welding techniques to join metal components.

You will be studying the Level 3 qualification in blacksmithing and metalworking which will give you the opportunity to make progress in the metalsmith sector, whether your chosen route is employment, an apprenticeship or university. It is broadly equivalent in size to two A Levels
