The major in Science & Technology Studies aims to further students' understanding of the social and cultural meanings of science and technology. Ideal for students pursuing careers in law, public policy or management, as well as for scientists, engineers and others interested in science, technology and society. Science, Technology and society (STS) is an interdisciplinary field that studies the conditions under which the production, distribution and utilization of scientific knowledge and technological systems occur and traces the consequences of these activities upon different groups of people. The intercollegiate program brings together courses taught in a variety of departments, and is divided into three principal disciplinary areas that are applied to science and technology: history, philosophy and social science (anthropology and public policy analysis). Courses explore the effects of science and technology on society and culture, and vice versa. General topics include the politics of socio-technical systems; analysis of scientific methodology in terms of objectivity and rationality; the social factors involved in producing scientific knowledge and technological change; moral and policy analysis of technological systems. More specifically, courses cover topics such as concepts of health, disease and disability; the political economy of pollution; the culture of the scientific laboratory; theories of race, eugenics and genetics engineering; and social networking and the Internet.

Technology Education entails the provision of problem-based learning utilizing math, science and technology principles. With the shortage of qualified technology education secondary-school teachers intensifying, technology-savvy instructors who are able to incorporate newly developing educational methodologies and technologies into the curriculum are in high demand.

Science, Technology and Society (STS) explores the impact of science and technology by examining the values, language, history, politics and economics of modern technological society. STS prepares students to integrate the scientific and technical disciplines with the humanities and social sciences. Core courses focus on historical and cultural foundations, basic ideas and values, dominant institutions, environmental viewpoints, policy formation, and sustainable development.

The law reaches into every aspect of modern life, and graduates with an understanding of the legal system have opportunities in the fields of law, policy, and government as well as business and education. Law, Technology and Culture is an interdisciplinary legal studies program that combines a traditional pre-law education with a focus on the intersection of science, technology, and law.

The Electrical Technology Program at Pearl River Community College is designed to lead to a Career Certificate, Technical Certificate, or an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electrical Technology. The program prepares individuals to install, operate, maintain, and repair electrical systems such as residential, commercial, and industrial electrical wiring, and conduit systems, commercial lighting, DC motors, AC motors, motor controls, programmable logic control, and electrical distribution panels. Instruction includes in-depth training in many aspects of the electrical field. In the classroom, students learn electrical theory, blueprint reading, and mathematics pertaining to the field of electrical technology, electrical code requirements, and safety.

Manufacturing Engineering Technology prepares students for a career in designing, integrating and improving manufacturing systems or related processes. Manufacturing Engineering Technology activities include implementing design or process improvements; developing technical methods or processes; determining causes of operational problems or failures; resolving operational performance problems; and analyzing operational data to evaluate operations, processes or products.

This certificate provides a focused area of study for students interested in careers in provision of technology to individuals with disabilities. It will prepare students for graduate programs such as prosthetics and orthotics or rehabilitation technology. It will also provide the course work and some of the clinical hours needed to satisfy the requirements for the RESNA (formerly Rehabilitation Engineering Society of North America) Assistive Technology Supplier certification.
