Design, photography, animation, and other forms of creative arts are society's communication means and a vehicle for pleasure, aesthetics, and social change.

Studying abroad helps you develop new perspectives on who you are as an artist, and to see your art and yourself through new eyes. BCA offers a transformative experience for the emerging artist, stripping away the noise, clutter and distraction of everyday urban life to allow for a greater exploration of creativity. Students normally take 5 courses during the semester, each carrying 3 credits. Each students is given a large studio space, for which they have 24/7 access to during the course of the programme.

Students interested in exploring careers behind the camera – including commercial, scientific, medical, aerial, news, sports, and fine art photography – will benefit from a Photography minor at Curry. This five-course program offers an array of courses in the essentials of industry tools, techniques, and practices while preparing students to become successful photographers. The Photography minor complements students studying graphic design, studio arts, communication or forensic science. Moreover, it allows all students, regardless of major, to master skills such as studio and location lighting, digital workflow, photo editing and retouching. With access to a state-of-the-art digital photography studio, students will gain exposure to industry-standard hardware and software products and gain the technical skills to develop an individualized digital photography portfolio.

Students completing 18 hours in photographic study can expect to obtain a sophisticated understanding of the photographically derived image and the technical and creative skills necessary for its production. Classes in photography offered by the Division of Art integrate the technical aspects of the medium with the aesthetic concerns appropriate to art. Through the use of photography, students learn to think and express themselves visually. A minor in photography prepares one for further work in fine arts or commercial photography and other areas where knowledge of photography is helpful. Beyond vocational applications, a minor in photography creates a firm foundation for future creative development.

While anyone can take a picture, photographers harness the science and technology of this expressive medium. The Photography program at CCS blends traditional techniques and digital training-including video and motion graphics-to help students thrive in the constantly changing world of photography. Ample studio space creates a home for honing fine art skills; training in commercial settings-from events to fashion shoots to fine art images-fosters flexibility and creativity.

This course presents photography entirely in its current and electronic form; emphasizing the most up-to-date learning techniques, allowing students to keep up with modern technology. In additional to covering the basic techniques of photography, this course covers the impact of computers on this important art form allowing students to emphasize their choices in picture making by presenting in depth basic techniques of photography.

The Minor in Photography at LA+D Is designed to provide a solid foundation, both technically and conceptually, in the medium of photography and its pertinent relationships to today’s designers, illustrators, animators, fine artists and critical thinkers. The required photography foundation options will integrate you into the program so that you feel comfortable and at home with other majors and in all the studios, labs and seminars. The elective options allow you to focus on a particular facet or level of expertise in the discipline.
