The Program of Specialization in Pediatrics of the Metropolitan University forms integral individuals with autonomous, critical, and reflective thinking, in a scientific context that approaches from the perspective of promotion, prevention, intervention, and rehabilitation in health directed to the child population and Teen; from foundations implemented on the basis of research and a humanistic ethical position; mediated by dialogic pedagogy, which allows it to develop metacognitive processes of self-training, which will act as change agents at the regional, national level in a globalized world.

Postural asymmetries are common in normal neonates and often go undetected until health problems arise. The presence of plagiocephaly peaks at > 40% in the first 4-6 months of life, and evidence is still detected in >10% of adolescents (age range 13 – 18 years old). A recently published review found the most significant barriers to parents’ adherence to deformational plagiocephaly prevention strategies were a lack of knowledge, inconsistent messaging, intolerance of babies to prone positioning and a lack of time.

This course is intended as an introduction to osteopaths who are considering treating paediatric patients or for osteopaths who would like a refresher course. Working with this population requires specific paediatric knowledge and skills, the basics of which will be covered in this face to face course.
