Anger, like other human emotions, is part of our daily experiences. However, if not well managed, it can lead to adverse effects and a reduction in productivity. It is an inevitable emotion that signifies dissatisfaction. On the other hand, if kept in control, you can live a full life and interact with others constructively. This course explores the various strategies to understand and manage anger and conflict.

The Peace, Conflict, and Social Justice Studies concentration reflects Bryn Mawr’s and Haverford’s interest in the study of conflicts, peacemaking, and social justice as well as related issues of human rights. Through this program students can explore these phenomena through courses in the social sciences, such as anthropology, economics, education, history, political science, social psychology, and sociology, that are built around such foci, as well as through courses in the humanities and natural sciences through which issues of peace, conflict, social justice, and/or human rights can be highlighted and traced.

Violence, injustice, and intractable conflict are among the most pressing problems we face today. At Grinnell, you’ll join a community committed to addressing these issues and taking action to solve them. You’ll work with fellow students and faculty members to better understand the issues underlying conflict and to creatively manage and transform conflict. As part of your studies, you’ll explore the historical roots of social justice and interact with scholars and peacebuilders working in the field to build peaceful practices and institutions in societies across the globe.

This course deals with interpersonal conflicts, causes, coping strategies and conflict resolution from a social psychological point of view.
