This ESL course builds on students’ previous education and language knowledge to introduce them to the English language and help them adjust to the diversity in their new environment. Students will use beginning ESL skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing for everyday essential academic purposes. They will engage in short conversations using basic English language structures and simple sentence patterns; read short adapted texts; and write phrases and short sentences. The course also provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to begin to adapt to their new lives in Canada.

Our five-level English a Second Language (ESL) program is based on the curriculum developed by the Ontario Ministry of Education and is taught by a staff of highly professional teachers. This program enables students to acquire effective communication skills in all areas of language study, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening. It enables students to achieve the standard of English necessary to succeed in high school and university courses. Students may finish one ESL level in two months. Once the student has completed ESL Level 5, he or she will move on to the regular program.

This ESL course further extends students’ skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English for a variety of everyday and academic purposes. As well, students will expand their academic vocabulary and their study skills to facilitate the transition to the mainstream school program. This course introduces students to the rights and responsibilities inherent in Canadian citizenship, and to a variety of current issues in Canada.

This BLSA Red Certificate course will help you identify and develop personal goals, assess your interests and skills, and begin exploring different career options with the aim of developing a coherent and meaningful career plan. Identify your strengths and weaknesses, personality type and dominant characteristics. Set goals that correspond with your interests, instincts, skills and dreams.

This ESL course provides students with skills and strategies they need to make the transition to college and university prep courses in English and other secondary school disciplines. Students will be encouraged to develop independence in a range of academic tasks. They will participate in debates and lead classroom workshops; read and interpret literary works and academic texts; write essays, narratives, and reports; and apply a range of learning strategies and research skills effectively. Students will further develop their ability to respond critically to print and media texts.

We have an English placement test, but all levels of English are available, from all day ESL courses for absolute beginners to courses for students ready to tackle Shakespeare and Mary Shelley. We also offer a wide range of courses in math, drama, science, business and the arts. All our courses are based on the Ontario Secondary School Curriculum.

Academic English Intro is designed for students who have had little exposure to the English language. It introduces students to the four main language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. In this level, students will be focusing on creating language through phonic and word analysis, and develop a solid understanding of the English Alphabet. At the completion of this level, students will feel confident holding short conversations about everyday topics.
