The Faculty of Law at Justus Liebig University Giessen is looking forward to hosting students from all over the world for the 4th International Online Winter University in International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian Law. The International Winter University takes place from 02nd January 2025 till 11st January 2025 and offers an in-depth approach to current challenges faced in International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian Law and Environmental Protection.

Analyse the causes and impacts of terrorism and political violence, exploring various theoretical frameworks and case studies. Terrorism and political violence are persistent challenges in the contemporary international environment.

This program offers a full semester (30 ECTS credits) taught in English.

POLAF - Politics in Africa: Changes, Conflicts and Connections are key to many of today’s global political challenges. It offers a unique prism for understanding, and addressing, issues of international relevance such as inequality and insecurity, climate change and extractive, liberal order crises and governance challenges.

The International Relations Concentration offers you the opportunity to combine insights from political and other social sciences with language and humanistic studies in order to examine pressing questions related to war, peace, trade, security, justice and power. This concentration complements majors in the social sciences, area studies, and foreign languages in particular, but it is appropriate to all students committed to engaging with issues arising from the globalized nature of the modern world.

Recent transformations in the international setting have brought important challenges for higher education institutions. Since the end of the Cold War, a series of events have marked the practice of international relations. These events are linked to the increase in trade and capital flows, the growing competition for non-renewable material resources and the large-scale geopolitical changes, such as the creation of new national states, the integration processes and the territorial conflicts. In order to face these phenomena, both governments and civil society organizations are demanding a professional with specific academic training in the field of international relations. This training takes an interdisciplinary approach, bearing in mind the nature of the phenomena involved.

The four-week online Debating International Relations course provides at least 72 hours of core academic teaching, along with development sessions to make the most of your international experience.

You can earn an International Relations minor from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration regardless of your major. This curriculum explores the role the global environment plays in shaping politics in the U.S. and abroad and a variety of other topics, including: International organizations, Non-governmental organizations, Transnational advocacy networks, The global economy.

As an international relations (IR) major, you’ll integrate the study of politics, economics, history and foreign languages to gain the skills you need to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world. IR students spend at least a semester abroad for a first-hand introduction to a foreign society. A thesis and study in one or two languages are required.
