The program integrates technology; written communication, oral communication, interpersonal skill, and ideas relating to sound business practices into the insurance/financial services curriculum

Insurance is an incredibly diverse marketplace with a rich history of helping people and businesses assess the risks they could face. Over a million people in the UK work in this exciting industry which provides products and advice on everything from sports cars to hurricanes. This Level 3 Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship is an entry level role into the industry, and can lead into a variety of careers with supporting professional qualifications. Future career paths could include underwriting, client relations, insurance claims, loss adjusting, broking, reinsurance and account management. This standard provides the competencies which will be achieved as part of an introduction to the industry and which will be transferable across future roles and companies.

This program is offered in Seneca's hybrid delivery format with some courses available in Seneca's flexible delivery format. Some coursework is online and some must be completed in person. Students will need to come on campus to complete in-person learning requirements. For courses offered in the flexible delivery format, professors use innovative learning spaces and technology to teach students in a classroom or lab and broadcast in real time to students attending remotely. 

After a relatively late start, the InsurTech sector has seen increased funding and interest in 2015 and Q1 2016. The need for better user experience, demand for different on-demand insurance products by Millennials, increase in data from sensors and IoT present huge potential for Insurance sector disruption in health insurance, life insurance and property and casualty insurance sectors. But at the same time, regulatory nuances in these sectors present challenges for startups unfamiliar with the insurance industry. Recent partnerships between established global Insurance firms and InsurTech startups is showing a potential way forward for this evolving industry.

All internships offered through the program are paid by the participating companies. In addition to enjoying a summer income, students will gain invaluable business experience in the industry.
