Become a winemaker, landscape architect, plant breeding expert or delve into the genetics of plant viruses and bacteria and help protect nature - at the Faculty of Horticulture at MENDELU. Your classrooms will include orchards, vineyards, new laboratories, greenhouses or arranging rooms, plots and gardens, including those in the UNESCO Lednice-Valtice area.

Aimed at students who wish to gain a degree qualification in horticulture, this programme gives you the opportunity to specialise in either nursery production, fruit production, medicinal plant production or retail. Following the production route will allow you to develop skills in propagation, growing on, harvest and post harvest care for a range of crops from ornamentals for the garden centre trade through to cut flowers, medicinal crops and fruit. Other aspects include machinery, soil science and common pests and diseases in the environment. Teaching and assessment methods include, coursework (assignments, written reports, case studies and presentations) as well as final examinations.

Sustainable Horticulture/Permaculture is a science-based course offering a practical and wide-ranging learning experience in a unique and thriving college community. Kinsale has a strong tradition of food and farming, as well as providing a near-idyllic environment for exploring ecology and the natural environment. The course is a mixture of classroom-based talks, practical activities, site visits, master classes from a range of visiting specialists and group project work.

This highly practical course serves as an excellent entry point for students with limited formal qualifications. It covers fundamental aspects of animal care and feeding, particularly focusing on farm livestock, while also imparting essential estate maintenance skills. Students learn about soil preparation, plant cultivation, and plant health maintenance, gaining hands-on experience in our custom-built commercial glasshouse, polytunnels, and expansive public/community gardens known as 'Broadview Gardens.'

The Garden Design - Level 3 Course can help students to learn the principles of design in horticulture, and gain an excellent knowledge and experience of using plants and garden features. This home study course is designed in easy to follow units, with set exercises and assignments along the way to ensure you understand the areas covered.

An apprenticeship is a job with training. The job must have a productive purpose and should provide the apprentice with the opportunity to embed and consolidate the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need for their immediate job and future career. The broad purpose of the occupation is to undertake practical operations required to create and maintain horticultural spaces. This includes both the soft aspects (plants and soil) and the hard elements (surfaces, features and structures). Some will carry out the full range of operations from landscape construction through to maintenance, although the majority will focus on one specialism due to the breadth of skills required.

This is a practical, work-related City & Guilds Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Floristry course. It is designed to develop the skills of those working in the floristry industry, who have achieved a Level 2 Diploma in Floristry or equivalent, or who have extensive industry experience. Students attend the college three days per week.

There is a wide scope of practice in the floristry industry. Some florists will work within retail outlets and prepare bouquets and arrangements for the sale and must therefore be keenly aware of their market.

This delightful class is suitable for all levels of ability and no previous experience is necessary. Sessions cover all aspects of flower arrangements for the home, gift ideas and seasonal displays.
