The Women’s and Gender Studies minor is an interdisciplinary minor that aims to inspire learning and service relevant to women’s and gender issues.

The interdisciplinary Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program (GSWS) combines a variety of scholarly traditions to develop a culture of critical thinking about the intersections of gender, sexuality, race, and class. Drawing primarily on the humanities and the social sciences, courses in GSWS explore the social construction of identity and experience as well as how difference, marginalization, and resistance exist within and across cultures and historical periods. In its curriculum and its faculty research, GSWS explores the multiple directions that feminist and queer scholarship and activism take locally, nationally, and transnationally.

Gender and sexuality studies trains you to examine gender relations and the construction of gender and sexual difference from a globally-informed perspective and to consider how gender and sexuality intersect with the social categories of race, class, ethnicity, disability, and age to produce our complex social identities.

Women's and Gender Studies courses seek to make visible and interrogate power relations that result in the marginalization of women, people of color, and others affected by structural injustices. Students will learn about the historical and contemporary contributions of women from a global perspective, identify and analyze stereotypes and forms of discrimination related to women and gender, and inquire into the diversity of experiences among women and within the spectrum of gender.

Students in the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) Program, examine intersecting systems of social difference—gender, sexuality, race, nationality, class, caste, and ability. Throughout your studies, you’ll learn to think independently, analytically, and courageously about your own subjectivities and the world around you. Students tailor their academic program to their interests, selecting from courses in WGSS and from other disciplines, and they graduate experienced in a variety of feminist research methodologies.

Campbellsville University’s Women’s and Gender Studies minor will provide students with a broader understanding of the impact and experience of gender at both the individual and institutional levels. The minor’s interdisciplinary focus will incorporate courses from a variety of academic programs across campus, including but not limited to: Christian Studies, Criminal Justice, English, History, Human Performance, Mass Communications, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Spanish, and Theater. This minor will hone students’ research and writing skills, as well as their critical and analytical skills, and will equip them to engage in a 21st century world.

The field of Women's Studies (or Gender Studies) analyzes and interprets historical and contemporary understandings of gender in the social and political world, using feminist theory and methods.

The Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies (GWSS) minor is an interdisciplinary program that encourages the study of gender construction and identities, the lives of women, and the range of sexualities, in local and global contexts.

The Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department is administered by the chair and other members of the program's core faculty. Core faculty are those who are actively involved in the program, who teach FGSS courses, advise FGSS majors and senior theses, and may serve as program chair. The program sponsors an annual symposium, the FGSS Salon, and the Diane Weiss Memorial Lecture.

Comprised of courses from a wide variety of departments, the WGS program aims to analyze the historical and contemporary experience of women in different parts of the world; develop a critical understanding of women's experiences and the social structures that construct gender, sex, and sexuality; and examine how our gendered lives and identities have been structured.

The Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) program at Washington and Lee University offer students both the opportunity to complete a multi-disciplinary minor in feminist and gender studies and a stimulating co-curricular environment in which to develop as intellectual and community leaders. Founded in 2001, the WGSS is a vibrant academic program that links the classroom with the world and offers the theoretical basis for activism and social change. Our faculty encourages students to see their studies as relevant to their everyday lives and important for understanding and responding to social justice issues. Students do just that--in a math student's investigation into why so few women study math in college, in a fraternity member's paper analyzing how his fraternity brothers' drinking habits shape male privilege, or in a missionary's daughter's attempt to better understand how a feminist might read the Bible. The flexible Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies capstone requirement allow students to pursue their particular interests with the kind of intensity that turns classroom competence into an abiding passion. Do you want to make audiences laugh with women's humor? Or challenge the ways in which media images invade our consciousness and control our bodies? Study women artists or find out how women changed history? Want to learn how we might get more diverse elected officials, and figure out why homophobia is still part of public policy? Or write a poem that moves its readers to action against sexist oppression? Join us. That's what we do.

Examines through a philosophical approach to representational theory the ways in which gender marginalized and gender diverse individuals and groups represent themselves, their bodies, and their power. In particular, the course explores why women and other gendermarginalized/diverse groups engage in self-representation, and what strategies they have used to reject or revise controlling images and stereotypes.

A Women’s Studies minor complements many different majors, such as nursing, physician assistant, social work, education, political science, and psychology. A Women’s Studies minor can help to customize the undergraduate experience, preparing students for various careers involving issues of diversity and social/political difference.

Fresno City College is the only college in the San Joaquin Valley to offer an AA in Women's Studies. Women's Studies offers a broad interdisciplinary approach to the study of women in society including their contrasting roles circumscribed by their culture and social institutions. It also provides an academic background helpful to those planning careers in law, business, education, and medicine.
