There is a focus on strong foundation courses that are essential to a traditional studio art education as well as access to digital art making methods. The Blackburn Art Department is fully committed to helping students achieve their goals, earn their degree, and embark on a career in the Fine Arts. The Visual Arts Center houses a state-of-the-art graphics lab as well as a fully functional photography studio and darkroom. Eighteen iMacs support the entire Adobe Creative Cloud as well as several Autodesk applications and Blender. Printers include wide format, hi-res photo and 3D capabilities.

This art and design course will provide you with the opportunity to actively participate in structured sessions to develop understanding and confidence with the production of visual imagery. Studies will start with an emphasis on observation and drawing. Followed by subsequent translation to develop work across a range of processes that may include painting, collage and printmaking. Continuous support, guidance and advice will be on hand throughout. The classes offer an informative and conducive learning opportunity that shares and builds upon experience through practical activity and reflection. Returning students have the opportunity to further apply knowledge and experience to extend and develop their practice.

This practical course will introduce you to a range of approaches, methods, and techniques in painting and drawing through various projects.

This creative course provides a fantastic opportunity to learn how to create computer games in one of the fastest developing creative industries in the world. You will gain a solid foundation of the creative processes involved in character design, motion capture, app game development, retro gaming, conceptual art and visual design aspects of computer games required to convert a game concept into reality.

This course will help develop basic watercolour techniques, composition and colour mixing skills, through a series of projects. In addition, the use of media such as pen, pastel and gouache will be combined with watercolour for more challenging projects.

Painters and decorators operate in domestic and commercial properties and undertake the decoration and protection of buildings. Properties include houses, schools, offices, hospitals, factories and construction sites. Working internally or externally, they work individually and/or as part of a team applying water-borne and/or solvent-borne paint coatings and wallcoverings. They have good knowledge of paint coatings and wallcoverings and understand and comply with statutory safety and environment requirements.

This two-year course is equivalent to 3 A Levels and reflects a growing interest in games design and animation - digital, cgi or traditional stop-motion. It is designed to enable you to progress to university and develop your expertise in preparation for a career in the industry. The course makes use of London's great resources with visits to industry shows, theatres, films and museums.

This fascinating workshop is available any Monday until July 2024 for school groups. Taught by renowned artist Mik Godley, sessions aim to focus on improving the skills of life drawing, completing exercises to practice specific skills. All materials and equipment will be provided. A Level 2 Painter and Decorator Apprenticeship is a structured training program designed to provide individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to work effectively in the painting and decorating industry. This apprenticeship typically combines practical on-the-job training with classroom-based learning and leads to a nationally recognized qualification.

This course is ideal for you if you wish to become a Painter & Decorator and are new to the construction industry, or if you are currently working in an associated role, that provides assistance to qualified professionals. The apprenticeship is perfect for demonstrating your competence, because it is a measure of your ability to carry out a range of painting and decorating skills, to criteria that has been set by the industry. The qualification is nationally recognised by the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), which will enable you to gain the CSCS Blue Card.

During the 1 year course, learners will have the opportunity to develop their essential life skills such as communication, numeracy and IT skills whilst also attending additional sessions to help improve their employability. With a successful completion of the Level 1 Certificate in Multiskills, learners will have the opportunity to apply for a foundation course in any one of the four core trades. The three core trades are: Carpentry, Painting and Decorating, and Brickwork. Course attendance will be three days a week at college.
