In your first year of studies in the Economics and Finance program, you’ll get a broad liberal arts education that creates a strong foundation for your future studies. During your second year, you’ll have a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of economic and statistical theory, and the opportunity to investigate a wealth of options (environmental economics, labor economics, health economics, finance, policy study, game theory, public finance and more). In your third and fourth years, you’ll specialize with courses that will bring you to the leading edge of current understanding in economics, finance, or financial economics.

This program focuses on financial, economic and administrative theory with a social context. Courses include traditional business studies as well as a strong foundation in the social sciences. Finance & Administration can be combined with a Diploma in Accounting, which will enable students to complete the 51-credit-hour requirement for the Chartered Accountancy practice and examinations.

This program is offered in Seneca's hybrid delivery format with some courses available in Seneca's flexible delivery format. Some coursework is online and some must be completed in person. Students will need to come on campus to complete in-person learning requirements. For courses offered in the flexible delivery format, professors use innovative learning spaces and technology to teach students in a classroom or lab and broadcast in real time to students attending remotely.

The "Accounting Essentials" training course provides a comprehensive introduction to bookkeeping and accounting, focusing on the fundamental principles of double-entry bookkeeping. This course is designed for individuals interested in careers in bookkeeping, clerical accounting, finance, general office work or those seeking to refresh their accounting knowledge.

Businesses and other organizations such as education and healthcare are accumulating massive amounts of data about every aspect of their operations. Even small and medium-sized organizations are choosing to use artificial intelligence and machine learning to create a competitive advantage.

This course combines Accounting (financial statement analysis) and Strategy (past and future ) to determine if the company has a Sustainable Competitive Advantage and Finance (business valuation). The course will include an assignment to fully evaluate a company from a strategic standpoint , followed by a valuation of the company using various models. The final assignment culminates in a report and presentation determining whether to Buy / Sell / Hold shares in this company.

This two-day course will lay a framework for understanding the financial and accounting operations, processes and concepts, needed to run and lead a sustainable architecture business.

The "QuickBooks Level 1" training course is designed to equip participants with the essential knowledge and skills to utilize QuickBooks software for accounting and financial management purposes effectively. This course is suitable for individuals who are new to QuickBooks or have limited experience with the software. Through practical exercises and comprehensive instruction, participants will gain proficiency in navigating the QuickBooks interface, recording transactions, generating financial reports, and utilizing key features to streamline their accounting processes.

For example: students enrolling in one distance studies half course, one distance studies full course or one evening half course ONLY must complete the online OSAP application for Part Time Students. Students with a Permanent Disability enrolling in one full distance studies course have the option to apply to Part Time or Full Time OSAP.

The "QuickBooks Level 2" training course builds upon the foundational knowledge gained in QuickBooks Level 1 and delves deeper into advanced features and functionalities of QuickBooks software. This course is designed for individuals with a basic understanding of QuickBooks or who have completed QuickBooks Level 1 training. Participants will further enhance their skills in managing complex financial transactions, analyzing reports, utilizing advanced tools, and optimizing their use of QuickBooks for efficient financial management.

A sound knowledge of fundamental accounting principles is essential to deal with the concepts presented in this course. The emphasis is on solving problems related to the preparation of financial statements. Specific financial statement elements covered are cash, accounts receivable, inventories, capital assets, and investments. The preparation of the Financial Statement is thoroughly reviewed.

In this course, students will build on their learning from ACC 252. Topics that are covered more in depth include the accounting for: business combinations; reporting for both wholly and nonwholly owned subsidiaries; segment reporting; foreign currency transactions; and reporting for non-for-profit entities and government entities.
