The Sacred Art School, training area of the Foundation for Contemporary Sacred Art, provides instruction in painting, sculpture and jewelry for students wishing to pursue careers as professional artists. Our three-year courses constitute our main educational offer; in fact, they offer a solid curriculum that provides each student with all the tools to learn how to become a well-rounded artist and pursue an artistic career.

An encompassing curriculum includes history and a wide range of media electives. The Creative Arts Certificate is designed to provide basic artistic training for career or personal interest. This course has been specifically designed for young students who have a keen interest in art, design and media who wish to develop their artistic talents. Over two weeks, the summer school delivers an exciting hands-on course, that combines creative teaching with stimulating workshops and practical sessions so that students can explore creative pathways and develop skills for their future. You will be encouraged to experiment with a variety of arts subjects, giving you the chance to explore your own creative style and your understanding of the creative process, from idea development to finished piece.

Rice English integrates creative and critical practice through training in close reading, analytical writing, cultural history and theory, and craft/form. Our faculty research and pedagogy cover the breadth of the study of British and American literatures and cultures ranging from the medieval era to the present. The curriculum emphasizes literature and literary history, race and ethnicity studies, feminist and gender studies, queer theory and the history of sexuality, visual culture and comparative media studies, and the Anglophone literature of the postcolonial world.

Learn the basic skills for working with new and scrap metals whilst exploring sculptural or applied ideas. Welding, gas cutting, grinding, and safe workshop practise are covered. Work on personal or tutor-led projects.

Explore the technical and conceptual sides of both functional and sculptural ceramics, while being guided in your search for personal expression. A community atmosphere lets you experience all angles of the creative process, with instruction focusing on technical expertise, craftsmanship, aesthetic ideals, criticism, and historical background. The Simon's Rock program in ceramics emphasizes a community atmosphere where students are exposed to all angles of the creative process. The program explores the technical and conceptual sides of both functional and sculptural ceramics, while guiding students search for personal expression through the medium. Instruction focuses on technical expertise, sound craftsmanship, aesthetic ideals, criticism, as well as historical background.

The metals studio is equipped with casting equipment that includes an electrically controlled large gas kiln and centrifugal and vacuum casting machines, wax injector and mold making equipment, two electric enameling kilns, gas forge, electro-forming equipment, and electric-powered Bonny Doon hydraulic press, acetylene and natural gas torches, flex shafts, two large anvils, a large variety of stakes and hammers, Dumore drill press, large rolling mill, and a bench and jump shear, spray etcher and spray booth, polishing equipment and full array of hand tools.

This course is for students interested in the various elements of theatre production behind the scenes. Students explore the creation of a theatre production from design to installation to the fi nal performance.

After a historical introduction and a few technical notions, a master enameler will help you grind the raw material and choose the powders that provide the colour. In creating the decoration of your jewellery, you will learn the secrets of metal engraving, as well as the techniques of "champlevé" and "plique à jour."

Students will also gain valuable experience in the safe use of decorating techniques such as glazing, decorating and texture as well as the correct handling of materials and equipment.

You will learn simple hand twisting technique to creating ceramics using terra cotta. Please experience the feel of Italian clay.
