Dalarna University offer a new and dynamic form of education in modern Chinese, using innovative methods and e-learning. Our web-based courses have full real-time interaction with the teachers. You can take our courses and study part-time, or you can choose to take a whole course package, which involves studies on a full-time basis. Some of our courses also run in the evening.

Mandarin Garden Chinese Language School offer Chinese language courses online for all over the world. Our mandarin courses are suitable for all levels of Chinese - from beginner to advanced - and include Business Chinese, Chinese immersion programs, HSK exam preparation and private Chinese lessons.

Chinese is one of the most widely used languages in the world today and has a rich past. Its writing system is only slightly modified from its ancient origins 3,000 years ago. With four levels of Mandarin Chinese language courses paired with studies of modern Chinese literature, film and culture, the Chinese major at Whitman College will help connect you to some of the world’s most complex and vibrant societies. The Department of Asian Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (DALLC) regularly offers four levels of instruction in Modern Standard Chinese (Mandarin), designed to enable the student to become proficient in aural comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as introductory courses in Classical Chinese, and occasionally, Cantonese and Taiwanese. The department also offers disciplinary courses taught either in English or in Chinese on Chinese literature, linguistics, or cultural studies. Students majoring in Chinese are strongly encouraged to study in mainland China or Taiwan during one or both semesters of their junior/senior year, or during the summer. All students, whether you are a language learner or a native speaker, are cordially invited to join us for the weekly Chinese language table.

The Chinese program offers four levels of courses. In addition to intensive training of skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, the program emphasizes the connection between curriculum and career and tries to create opportunities for students to use their acquired language skills in daily life and to learn other subjects. Fourth level Chinese courses are designed with the concept of “using Chinese to learn” and a specific subject to be studied in Chinese (such as film, journalism, and business).

Chinese Studies majors gain a deep understanding from reading and pondering the issues presented in the carefully selected materials regarding the above areas. Chinese Studies provides students the ability to study in depth about China and Chinese speaking regions and to develop their academic skills and qualifications for careers related to China.

Students who major in Chinese Language and Literature focus on the study of Chinese language, literature, and culture, with the aim of achieving proficiency in Mandarin Chinese, including speaking, listening, reading and writing. The major requires courses aimed at helping majors to develop a comprehensive understanding of Chinese culture through the study of literature, humanities, and social sciences. It also requires a course in either literary theory or translation.

A Minor in Chinese consists of a minimum of 18 credit hours, including successful completion of 10 credit hours of Chinese language and culture courses at and above CHIN2040 on campus and 9 credit hours of an intensive summer study in China. A Minor in Chinese offers students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Chinese language, culture, and society.
