The Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering to undergraduate students and offers graduate programs leading to the master of science, master of engineering, and doctor of philosophy degrees in Chemical Engineering, and master of engineering degrees in Biological Chemical Engineering and Chemical Energy Engineering.

Chemical engineering involves applications of chemistry, physics, mathematics, and, increasingly, biology and biochemistry. In addition to these disciplines, the chemical engineering curriculum includes the study of applied and computational mathematics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, thermodynamics, chemical kinetics and chemical reactor design, and process control. A chemical engineer may work in the manufacture of inorganic products (ceramics, semiconductors, and other electronic materials); in the manufacture of organic products (polymer fibers, films, coatings, pharmaceuticals, hydrocarbon fuels, and petrochemicals); in other process industries; or in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or biomedical industries.

The chemical engineer can work in chemical and petrochemical industry processes and in the development of projects for production units, in addition to working in the areas of materials, food, computer science, environment, among others. In the environmental field, the chemical engineer is responsible for studying the environment pollution degree through chemical analysis of water and gas emissions control.
