At our Gravesend Campus, the Level 1 Carpentry Course provides a comprehensive blend of practical and theoretical learning, overseen by seasoned tutors within a modern workshop environment. These foundational skills extend to encompass diverse building methods and construction technologies.

Carpentry and joinery is a core trade within construction, especially in the house-building sector. As demand for new homes continues, so does the demand for carpentry and joinery. This largely practical programme is for individuals who have a genuine interest in carpentry or joinery and wish to gain employment in the industry. Progression after the programme could be onto Level 2 Carpentry, Advanced Construction Award or employment in the industry; or an Apprenticeship. During the first year of the programme students will work towards Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery. Upon successful completion, you will be able to study at Level 2.

Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeships give you the skills needed for careers in joinery, carpentry and shop fitting. Roles may be carried out on construction sites, existing domestic or commercial premises or in workshops. During this apprenticeship you may follow one of two pathways which may be decided by your employer.

Selkirk College is endorsed by Skilled Trades BC to deliver all four levels of Carpentry Apprenticeship Technical Training to registered carpentry apprentices. Each level of training consists of a full-time (30 hours per week), seven-week, on-campus program of study. Activities include classroom sessions where as an apprentice you will learn theoretical principles of carpentry, and shop sessions where knowledge is put to use in the mastery of practical skills.

Are you interested in a career in the residential or industrial construction industry but are unsure about which trade might be the best fit? If so, SIIT’s Construction Worker Preparation program may be your next step. The 10 week Construction Worker Preparation program is delivered at trade shops in Regina, Prince Albert, and Saskatoon, and in various community locations. The program includes classroom and hands on training, life skills training, career planning, and safety tickets. Students can also complete a work practicum and can earn 300 hours of trade time credit toward apprenticeship in Carpentry.

This Course is suitable for individuals who have completed a level 1 course in carpentry and joinery at the college, code I1AF and who are now wishing to study carpentry in more depth and to gain employment in the industry. The focus is on practical application of skills and supporting theory. Progression after the programme could be onto employment in the industry or an Apprenticeship.

During their time at college, students engage in a balanced curriculum comprising both practical and theoretical lessons. Practical sessions provide hands-on experience in various construction tasks, including first fixing, second fixing, and erecting structural carcassing. Additionally, students learn essential skills such as working safely, relaying information, calculating quantities, and communicating effectively with others. Theoretical lessons cover building methods and construction technology, ensuring students gain a comprehensive understanding of the industry.

This course is ideal for you if you wish to become an Advanced Site Carpenter or Advanced Architectural Joiner and you are progressing from the Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery Apprenticeship, or have previous experience and are working in an associated supervisory role, which provides support for qualified professionals.

Our Construction Multi-Skills course offers you the ideal introduction to a broad range of different trades and sectors, arming you with a great foundation of technical skills and knowledge while keeping your options wide option for a future specialism. Our construction multi-trades course enables you to learn everything from brickwork, carpentry and joinery, plastering, painting and decorating to electrical installation and plumbing, giving you valuable training and insight into which area you may want to pursue further for your career.

Whether working as part of a team or under supervision you will use machinery and tools to create structures for components from the designs plans and specifications of architects and designers to meet the clients’ expectations.

This course is ideal for you if you wish to become a Site Carpenter, or Architectural Joiner and are new to the construction industry, or if you are currently working in an associated role that provides assistance to qualified professionals. The apprenticeship is perfect for demonstrating your competence, because it is a measure of your ability to carry out a range of woodwork skills, to criteria that has been set by the industry. The qualification is nationally recognised by the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), which will enable you to gain the CSCS Blue Card.

This introductory practical course is for people interested in learning the basic principles and techniques of basic Carpentry and Joinery. The course is of particular value to anyone wishing to build their skills to undertake small DIY home projects, small home renovations/repairs, craft projects or to simply learn a range of new skills.

Advanced Apprentice Level 3 Units studied may include: Analysing technical information, quantities and communication with others, analysing the construction industry and built environment, applying plaster materials to produce complex internal surfaces, applying render to produce complex external surfaces, health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries and preparing and running in-situ moulds.
