The Electrical Engineering Program trains professionals with high technical skills whose work ranges from projects and domestic installations to the development of power generation and telecommunication systems. The program aims to prepare professionals for the legal practice, while equipping them with technical knowledge, a critical view and social and political consciousness. The program’s curriculum includes a strong humanist base, which combines the need for a dogmatic and practical training and an education concerned with the development of a truly conscious and participatory citizenship. For degree completion, in addition to achieving the number of credits required for mandatory courses and completing a final thesis (TCC), students must obtain 324 class hours of elective courses, 360 hours of internship experience and 360 hours of complementary activities (including research and outreach activities, extracurricular courses and internships, and student representation).

The program follows an open organizational structure that allows flexibility among the different areas of design specialization. In this structure, students choose their own study paths according to their skills and abilities – which are often revealed during the course of their studies. The Design Project modules are responsible for guiding their academic pathway. Each Design Project course must be taken together with three other courses which, combined together, will meet its parallel prerequisites (see figure 1). The prerequisite courses give support to the development of the project and their instructors are responsible for the conduction, organization and evaluation of the student’s project, which should be based upon the content of all courses for the knowledge to be fully achieved.

The Dentistry Program aims to contextualize, investigate and teach the necessary knowledge to prepare dentists or dental surgeons for a contemporary career that promotes health based on the precepts of ethics, morality and science. In its early stages, the program focuses on the human body and its functioning, including courses in Histology, Physiology, Anatomy and Embryology.

UFSC Journalism Program prepares students for a career as reporters, photographers, editorial designers, writers or editors in newspapers, magazines, radio, TV, internet, news agencies and press offices, either employed, as a freelancer or as an entrepreneur. Since the early stages, the student is in contact with the practice of journalism through technical courses held in the laboratories of Radio Journalism, TV Journalism, Photojournalism, Writing, Online Journalism and Infographics.

The historian is the only scholar concerned with society that deals systematically with time. They understand and critically analyze all the social, political, economic and cultural transformations from the perspective of time. History students and professionals must have an investigative spirit and a taste for reading. UFSC History Program enables students to combine classical methods and theories with new practices for knowledge production and social criticism. For this, it offers a set of theoretical-methodological courses and promotes the discussion on these issues throughout the whole program.

Theory and practice are combined in the curriculum to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of organizational structures and their problems. The courses aim at encouraging entrepreneurship and the ability to analyze social transformations. In the job market, the place of the administrator is guaranteed in the most diverse areas. Any organization, whatever its size and complexity (NGOs, associations or multinational corporations), needs qualified professionals for business management. UFSC has agreements with more than 600 organizations which offer internship positions to students and help them prepare for their future careers. Many of them are hired by the same companies after the internship period. Students can also take part in Ação Júnior, a company managed by themselves under faculty guidance, which advises different organizations.
