9 Biomedical Science Course Programs

A summer university preparation programme for teens, hosted at University College London (UCL). This course aims to build a strong foundation in medicine, health sciences, and biomedical research while developing practical laboratory and clinical skills through hands-on learning.

The Biomedical Sciences major is an interdisciplinary program designed for students specifically wishing to pursue a career in the health sciences. The curriculum provides students with the foundation required for admission to and success in a variety of graduate programs (physiology, neuroscience, immunology, human genetics, etc.) or professional schools (medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, physical therapy, nursing, etc.). After completing a common core of classes, students specialize in a specific area of interest through upper-level courses in biology and/or chemistry.

The Biomedical Laboratory Technology Program gives students the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to contribute to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease by providing biomedical laboratory services to physicians and other clients. Become a member of a healthcare team and provide essential laboratory results to aid in patient care.

Biomedical engineering combines knowledge from all the basic science disciplines: mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology as well as engineering sciences. Due to this inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary nature of the subject, and the rapidly advancing knowledge in the field of medicine, the curriculum for a biomedical engineer must also be adaptive and keep up with current advancements.

After graduating, you will be well positioned to apply successfully to schools of medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy, and other postgraduate professional schools. After graduating from this program and with subsequent graduate training, you can go on to become a professional health care provider, integrating yourself into the fabric of the health care system of your community.

Students in the Biomedical Engineering Minor take courses that provide them with a broad overview of the discipline. Through the curriculum, students learn about the many aspects of the engineering field and are required to communicate their ideas orally, visually, and through writing to a wide audience beyond the engineering field.

This is a two-day course with interactive presentations, providing a systematic and structured introduction to history taking and clinical examination.
