The LAT Investing in Fine Arts Course has been designed to help demystify the art world by laying out the general principles on which the market is based, explaining how its main players operate and clarifying the fees involved. This course introduces the world of artists and the galleries that represent them, exploring the different methods of seeking out new talent and how to acquire the best works. It will then provide a breakdown of how the market works for reselling, the best strategies to get the best price and how to seek out a bargain. More importantly, it will demonstrate how to appraise a work and how to approach every transaction so that you can avoid costly mistakes.

Engage, critique and shape culture with programs in art history, design studies, studio art and museum studies. Studio courses stress the fundamentals of visual communication and help you cultivate the technical skills to effectively express your ideals in a given medium. Art history courses combine the traditional and non-traditional approaches to the study of art – past and present – and focus on the social and cultural contexts of art and architecture.

Each year over 500 students across the Claremont Colleges enroll in thirty-nine courses offered by the Scripps Art faculty in: art theory, book arts, ceramics, digital art, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video. Courses are designed to integrate theory and practice, enabling students to express their knowledge through research and diverse creative forms that can foster and enhance social discourse. The Art Department offers a rich and distinctive program that prepares our majors to pursue graduate work and careers in art, media, education, and the non-profit sector.

As an Art History student at Marist, you'll be immersed in the heritage, theory, and culture of art's origins and its future. You will also be provided numerous opportunities for hands-on application of art history, so you'll be well-prepared for a successful career in art. Art History students at Marist explore the wide history of the visual arts; from prehistoric caves and the pyramids of Egypt to the challenging and exciting creations of modern and contemporary art. Courses like Museum Studies provide valuable insights into the practical world of art. You will also design your own study plan by pursuing an alternative discipline, such as a foreign language, anthropology, or business.

Each of the three areas within the studio arts concentration--ceramics, drawing and painting, and photography--has common studio foundation and art history requirements. All students concentrating in the studio arts must take at least two introductory (100-level) studio arts courses from the following areas: drawing/painting, 3D arts (ceramics, sculpture), and the lens-based arts (film, photography); students must also complete at least one art history courses. It is recommended that a student should have completed (or be enrolled in) at least two of the studio foundations courses and one art history survey course at the time of moderation.

The art major at Colorado College offers an integrative approach to studying the history and practice of art, architecture, design, and museum studies. The major introduces a wide variety of liberal arts students to the history of art and provides opportunities to experience the power of creative processes through making. Our program is structured to ensure that all majors experience the practice of creating art and are capable of thoughtful analysis of the visual language of works of art. We hope to prepare our majors for graduate study or careers in the visual arts, but the art major also develops visual, analytical, and written skills that qualify students for careers in areas other than the arts.

The Department of Art History offers a wide range of courses in European, American, Latin American, Middle Eastern/Islamic, African/African diaspora and Asian art history. The major in Art History is structured to expose students to the chronological, geographical, and methodological breadth of the field of scholarship. With the Polk Museum of Art as your home base, your degree in Art History and Museum Studies will take you around the globe and across millennia as you come to understand the aesthetic, cultural, political, and social significance of art, artifacts, architecture, and visual culture upon the history of our world. Delve into visual analysis, archaeology, anthropology, literary and art criticism, philosophy, and even science and the business of art, as you explore the inner workings of the museum world and experiment with research methods and conservation techniques.

Trinity’s Fine Arts Department takes great pride in its Art History Program. While small enough to offer students individual attention, it is also worldly enough to endow them with a breadth of knowledge essential to a career in art and architectural history and their related fields. The four full-time members of the department—and a fine cadre of adjunct professors—teach courses that span the globe.

The Department of Art, Architecture and Design offers a BA degree in four majors: art, architecture, design, with concentrations in both graphic design and product design, and art history. It has minor programs in each field, and additional minors including apparel design and museum studies. Whether concentrating on studio art or art history, Wabash College art majors develop a set of visual skills: looking, composing, and understanding. Along with the knowledge gained within the humanities, students use these skills in creating and interpreting works of art. Whereas studio art develops visual expression, art history puts visual expression into words.
