Art and Design and Moving Image Arts are exciting and engaging subjects which play a valuable part in the education of Campbell College boys. The visual arts provide unique ways of expressing feelings and ideas about the world in which they live. The curriculum content of Art & Design and Moving Image Arts at Campbell College aims to give our pupils an understanding and appreciation of arts and culture, keen visual literacy, and the creative and practical skills required to study the visual arts at GCSE, A Level, and in further and higher education.

GCSE Art & Design is an exciting course that will give you the opportunity to discover and try out a range of disciplines, including: Fine Art, Graphic Design, Textile design and 3D design. You will complete a range of creative and interesting projects across these disciplines, which will culminate in a portfolio of work that you can use to progress to either A Levels or vocational Art and Design related subjects.

HND In Art and Design leads on from the HNC Art and Design Practice. The year consists of six units, three units are mandatory with one being Pearson set. The remaining specialise in pathways in art practices. HND continues to build on the academic and practical skills they have achieved on the HNC programme. During this year, students will develop their use of materials and processes through an investigation in conceptual practices.

A programme of study aimed at those who wish to gain a specialist Level 3 vocational qualification in the Art and Design sector. This course is designed to progress students to Higher Education qualifications in Art and Design or for those who wish to enter employment.

HNC is the first year of a two-year programmer of study and is worth 120 credits. During this year, students will be able to develop their independent study skills, supported by workshops, seminars, and tutorials to enhance their individual art practice. Workshops will include printmaking, drawing, painting, textile and 3D construction in all areas of art and design practice. The HNC consists of eight units which build and feed into the students experience per project, analysing visual language, through a philosophical exploration of the formal elements.

Our Art and Photography A-levels are designed to stretch your creative talents and develop your technical abilities. Intended for those looking to harness their skills or seek a career in the creative industries, our Art and Photography A-levels provide you with the knowledge and ability to progress directly onto university or straight into industry. Delivered by experts within their fields, our supportive tutors will work with you individually to bring out the very best of your abilities. You will benefit from a wide range of specialist facilities including a traditional photography darkroom, state-of-the-art image editing software and creative workshop environments.

The Creative Industries contributed £101.5bn to the UK economy in 2017, accounting for 5.5% of UK Gross Value Added (GVA). Level 1 students can choose from a wide range of subjects to specialise in for further study towards a career. You will develop a range of study skills including English and Maths qualifications, as well as building a portfolio of work to prepare them for progression to Level 2 study in either the art or design area of their choice, or alternative subject areas in other departments.

This art and design course will provide you with the opportunity to actively participate in structured sessions to develop understanding and confidence with the production of visual imagery. Studies will start with an emphasis on observation and drawing. Followed by subsequent translation to develop work across a range of processes that may include painting, collage and printmaking. Continuous support, guidance and advice will be on hand throughout. The classes offer an informative and conducive learning opportunity that shares and builds upon experience through practical activity and reflection. Returning students have the opportunity to further apply knowledge and experience to extend and develop their practice.
