4 Art Education Course Programs

Art Education is a planned double major that prepares you to teach Art in every grade, P-12. The excellent Art department offers a range of studio and art history courses; combined with our strong Education program, you will be prepared for your career, and can even begin classes for your Masters in Education during your fourth year!

As an art education student, you will have the advantage of mentoring relationships with your professors and extensive hands-on learning opportunities in the studio and in local schools. At Florida Southern, you can enjoy the best of both worlds. This unique program allows you to hone your artistic talents while learning to support students in the development of their own creative abilities. Offered by the Department of Art in conjunction with the School of Education, you can choose to pursue a B.A. or B.S. degree in art education. Your coursework will include an array of studio art and art history courses. Additionally, you'll take foundational courses that will prepare you to earn teaching certification as a K-12 Art Teacher.

The MAAE is designed to nurture and inspire the Artist/Researcher/Teacher, recognizing the complexities and intersections of these three lenses and identities. Candidates explore multiple layers of meaning and experience by combining both verbal and visual literacies, connecting theory to practice in order to better understand the complex whole of culturally relevant pedagogy in the field of contemporary art and art education.

The art program at Brookside blends self-expression, the development of creative thinking, and an appreciation for art history. These elements are the foundation for the development of children’s ability to visually express their ideas.
