The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) is an internationally recognised professional body. The purpose of the Foundation Certificate in Accounting is to offer the foundation accounting knowledge needed to progress to employment, further study or apprenticeship in accountancy and finance.

An Assistant Accountant provides support to internal and external customers. Part of their role will involve assisting in the day to day financial activities such as data entry to month end management accounts and/or year-end financial statements. In addition, the Assistant Accountant may find themselves involved in regulatory financial requirements such as the completion of VAT returns or assisting in the preparation of tax computations.

Accounts/Finance Assistants are an integral part of the team, that are responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within a business, and assisting the team of accountants with junior accounting duties. They can work in almost any sector, with potential employers including corporate businesses, sole traders and educational institutions.

This AAT Level 3 apprenticeship course will give the apprentice the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to work in a variety of job roles such as Assistant Accountant, Trainee Accounting Technician, Accounts Clerk, Finance Assistant, Credit Controller, Audit Trainee. As part of the Level 3 apprenticeship, the apprentice may sit the individual examinations which make up the AAT's Advanced Diploma in Accounting to achieve this additional qualification

This AAT level 4 apprenticeship course will lead to the achievement of Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship. If all of the individual unit AAT exams are also taken and passed, the apprentice will also gain the Professional Diploma in Accounting, this coupled with the required work place experience will enable the apprentice to gain the letters MAAT after their name. The many transferable skills that will be developed during this course provide a superb foundation for many career pathways in accounting such as Assistant Management Accountant, Assistant Financial Accountant, Payroll manager, Senior Bookkeeper, Senior Financial Officer.

The Professional Accounting Taxation Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship will involve you working in an accounts department, taking on more responsibility in supporting a business or organisation manage their money properly. Running a business involves a lot of financial activities, from expenses and bills to taxes and payroll. Accountants keep track of all these areas and more. It takes a business brain, as well as a way with numbers, to get ahead.

This course includes the first level of the full AAT qualification. It is ideal for you if you are currently working in accounting, whether this is your first job since leaving education or whether you are changing career. This course will give the apprentice the skills needed to work in a variety of job roles such as Accounts Assistant / Accounts Payable Clerk / Accounts Administrator / Business Accounts Administrator / Finance Assistant Junior / Cost Accountant Assistant/ Assistant Bookkeeper / Junior Cashier / Junior Credit Control clerk / Data input clerk / Accounts Receivable Clerk/ General Administrator/ Bank Reconciliation Clerk/ Cash Poster/ Finance Administrator.

Upon successful completion of the programme, ICB will issue learners with a Results Letter outlining the modules covered. The ICB will apply to FASSET on the learner’s behalf for the Skills Programme in Business Literacy to be awarded.

The Accounts/Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting the team of accountants with junior accounting duties. An Accounts/Finance Assistant’s work could include basic bookkeeping activities, working with sales and purchase ledgers, running calculations to ensure that records and payments are correct, recording of cash and data entry. Accounts/Finance Assistants can work in almost any sector.
