The Mechanical Engineering (ME) PhD program at South Dakota School ofMines and Technology allows students to reach the highest level of academicachievement. Our Engineering Management MS degree at South Dakota Mines is a multi-disciplinary, applications-oriented degree drawing from fields of engineering, management and operations research. The Ph.D. in Data Science and Engineering is a joint collaborative program betweenElectrical Engineering and Computer Science,Industrial Engineering, andMathematicsdepartments. The M.S./MES degree offers an education in the broad area of materials. Students pursuing this degree will expand their knowledge and understanding of the science and technology of materials synthesis, behavior, and production. Graduates of the program formulate solutions to materials problems through the use of multi-disciplinary approaches made possible with a broad background in basic materials science and engineering coupled with an area of specialization.

The doctor of philosophy program in materials engineering and science (MES) offers a student the opportunity to expand his/her knowledge and understanding of the science and technology of materials production, behavior, and applications. The student will undertake multidisciplinary approaches, combining the basic elements of both engineering and science, to the solution of materials-related problems. Because such problems are found in every science and engineering discipline, the degree applicant has considerable flexibility in the selection of the department in which to pursue dissertation research, within the confines of the applicant‘s academic preparation and interests. Candidates will study either a science or engineering emphasis within the MES Ph.D. program. For example, research emphasis may be placed on improving processes for the production of metallic, polymeric, ceramic, or other structural or electronic materials. Alternatively, the degree candidate may investigate mechanisms for improving material properties, which in turn, could lead to new or better applications. Classroom and individualized instruction will provide the necessary theory to complement such creative activities.

Admission to the nano-SE MS program requires a bachelor's in an engineering or science discipline based on physical science. The Introduction to Nanoscience course is offered for students from a range of backgrounds as an introduction to nanotechnology. Bolstered by its proximity to the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF), the nation’s leading site for underground nuclear and particle physics, the Ph.D. program at South Dakota Mines provides unique opportunities for research into the underlying principles of the natural world. Our internationally recognized faculty lead students in searches for the dark matter of the universe, studies of the nature of the neutrino and the origin of the chemical elements, as well as research into condensed matter, e.g. phase transitions in ferroelectric and magnetic materials or quantum materials. The Associate in Arts in Dance degree will prepare students for transfer into a four-year dance major, minor or performing arts program. It can also prepare students for further study in other dance-related fields including performing, dance teaching, choreography, dance science, dance therapy, dance history or dance criticism. Upon completion of the degree students should be proficient in three or more dance technique styles at the intermediate level, have a firm understanding of dance appreciation and music theory, and be competent in creating and performing dance.

The Medical Assisting: Administrative program prepares the student for employment as an administrative (front office) medical assistant in a physicians office or clinic. This program is designed to prepare the student to schedule appointments, perform medical reception duties, handle financial matters (including medical collection), manage medical records, and insurance billing. The externship in the front office of a physicians office will provide the student with the administrative experience necessary to enter the workforce.

It responds to the need for people skilled in effective communications in all levels of society including industry, education, art and music, and the public arena.

San Jose City College offers a certificate and Associate in Science degree in Cosmetology. The Cosmetology Program is designed to provide those persons interested in becoming a licensed cosmetologist with instruction in technical and theoretical knowledge relating to the basic skills in all phases of cosmetology including current salon techniques and trends. Emphasis is placed on application of skills in hair coloring, permanent waving, chemical relaxing, hair styling, hair cutting, manicuring, skin care, facials and makeup. Instruction in professionalism, salon management, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, sanitation, Cosmetology Act, rules and regulations are included.

San Jose City College offers an Associate in Science (AS) and Certificate of Achievement and in Medical Assisting: Clinical degree. The Medical Assisting: Clinical program prepares the student for employment as a clinical (back office) medical assistant in a physicians office, clinic, or hospital setting. The student performs a variety of clinical medical assisting procedures including physical examination, medication administration, electrocardiography, minor surgery assist, medical asepsis, phlebotomy, and laboratory specimen handling, processing, and analysis. An externship in the clinical area of a physicians office, clinic, or hospital will provide the student with the necessary experience to enter the workforce.

San Jose City College offers both an Associate in Arts (AA), Associate in Science (AS) and certificates in Administration of Justice Judicial Administration. Students planning to transfer should follow the Associate in Arts. The Judicial Administration option expands the existing Administration of Justice program focus beyond primarily law enforcement to include judicial branch careers. The program offers students educational opportunities which prepare them for entry into judicial branch careers. Additionally, the curriculum addresses the educational and professional development needs of the existing judicial branch workforce and prepares students for advancement in their careers working in the courts. The program goals address the increasing need for well-prepared applicants for court positions at all levels from entry to managerial.
