Programs in Fiji 2025

The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme, along with Masters of Laws, Masters of Environmental Law, and PhD, are offered by USP’s School of Law. These programmes specifically focus on the legal systems of the South Pacific region, particularly those of USP's 12 Member Countries: the Cook Islands, Fiji Islands, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tokelau, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

Chemistry is the central science. All aspects of technical development require people with expertise in chemistry. A basic chemical education is required of doctors, dentists, engineers, agriculturalists, foresters, factory managers, etc. Thus, there is a continuing need for chemistry teachers in the region. In addition, there is an increasing need for graduates with some chemistry background for work in the industry as quality control staff, production managers and in a range of government and private research laboratories, e.g. mineral exploration, environmental pollution monitoring, agriculture. The contribution of chemistry graduates to regional development is considerable.

Computing science (CS) spans the range from theory through programming to cutting-edge development of computing solutions. Computer science offers a foundation that permits graduates to adapt to new technologies and new ideas.

This discipline, offered by the School of Geography, Earth Science & Environment, introduces students to the study of the Earth’s biophysical environment, the wide field of human geography, as well as other courses that teach Geography with emphasis on the Pacific Islands such as the nature and distribution of the world’s plant and animal resources in the Pacific.

This program does not follow the usual programme requirements for major and minor disciplines but instead have prescribed sets of courses, across discipline boundaries.

The Bachelor of Commerce in Tourism and Hospitality Management degree programme has been designed to meet the demands of employers for the strategic, technological and managerial skills considered necessary for this exciting and dynamic industry.

Internationally accredited by the Association of MBA’s (AMBA), the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program of the Graduate School of Business (GSB), the University of the South Pacific (USP) has become a market leader among Pacific Island states with an excellent regional reputation for quality and relevance.

The Master of Arts in Diplomacy and International Affairs builds on the foundational courses in the Postgraduate Diploma in Diplomacy and International Affairs by adding an opportunity to undertake a research essay on diplomacy and international affairs on a topic of particular interest to the student.

The Division of Biology provides biology courses for undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes within the Faculty of Science and Technology. The courses provided by the division strike a balance between traditional studies in biology and modern advances in biological research at levels ranging from molecules to communities.

A study in mathematics is a study of the principles that are shared by all, and in the tools that are available for all to describe and analyze the world. Graduates with a degree in Mathematics are valued for their analytic skills and their ability to approach and solve problems using logic and abstract thinking.

BSc students interested in studying Physics can choose to take Physics as a Single Major, Double Major or Minor. BEd students may choose Physics as their second Major. Other students whose principal interest is not in Physics may, however, be advised or have the option to take Physics courses. This category involves those enrolled in the School's interdisciplinary programmes and the Marine Studies BSc programme. The School also offers one course (PH105: Physics in Today's World) which may be taken as an elective by those students from FST and other Schools with limited prior knowledge of Physics.

The Bachelor of Engineering degree is a four-year programme comprising thirty-two courses, eight at the 100-level, eight at 200-level, sixteen at 300-level plus an industrial attachment and workshop practice component.

The Intensive English Programme is designed to empower students to use English socially, for study and for work. A skills-based syllabus is employed where listening, speaking, reading and writing are equally weighed. There are twenty-one hours of classes spread over 10 (ten) weeks to ensure that learners benefit from the total hours allocated per term.

The Bachelor of Commerce in Professional Accounting is a prescribed programme and exists for students who are already in the accounting field or have previous work experience in accounting, and wish to pursue their career in a professional accounting firm.
