9 Construction Degree Programs in Czech Republic

The two-year master's degree in Architecture and Construction is a continuation of the four-year bachelor's degree in Architecture and Civil Engineering in the same field of study. The emphasis in the master's study is on architectural design and building disciplines, which are an integral part of every construction work.

Candidates applying to study in the Civil Engineering bachelor’s study program must demonstrate knowledge and understanding within the scope specified by the appropriate directive of the Dean of FCE BUT, which requires them to have successfully completed their secondary education with a “Maturita“ final secondary school exam.

PhD in Civil Engineering Doctoral study is based on research in civil engineering. Students are working in one of the areas: concrete and concrete structures, steel structures, reliability and durability of structures, transport structures building environment, and urban planning.

The division of the three-semester follow-up master's study program Civil Engineering - Water Management and Water Structures is based on the tradition of long-term study programs at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Brno University of Technology (hereinafter “BUT Faculty”).

The Civil Engineering - Building Structures program is prepared as a 1.5 year master's program. It is focused on designing and implementing demanding structures of civil, industrial, engineering and transport structures. Theoretical disciplines in the field of strength and elasticity, finite element method and building dynamics are deepened.

The program is jointly taught by the Faculty of Civil Engineering (FCE), the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FME) and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEE) at the Czech Technical University in Prague. Graduates are professionals in the design and operation of integrated building systems (integration of structural design, building services systems and controlling, energetics and information systems).

The study plan is focused on detailed analyses of load-bearing structures, design of concrete, steel, timber and masonry elements and structures including their interactions as well as optimization of their structural and technological design. Students will be trained in using new and non-traditional materials; fundamentals of dynamic analyses are also incorporated. Specialization of graduates will be achieved through the selection from a variety of optional subjects and demonstrated particularly within final diploma work.

The graduates in the branch of Building Engineering acquire thorough professional and theoretical knowledge according to their orientation in the field of the design and theory of building structures, reliability, durability, rehabilitation and reconstruction of buildings, material engineering, building physics, acoustics and lighting, numerical analysis of building structures and their parts, health safety of buildings, fire safety of buildings, multi-criterion assessment of buildings with respect to sustainable development, recycling, evaluation of energy performance of buildings, specific problems of conservation and revitalization of listed buildings, design of intelligent building systems, building microclimate, inside environment technology, progressive technologies of building implementation, in the field of protection of buildings against increased moisture, degradation and biodegradation processes, probability theory and statistics and applied computer science.

The branch of study is focused on the design of load-bearing structures (made of concrete, steel, timber, and composites), their structural analysis and modeling, including their interaction with completion structures. Fundamental orientation in the field of transport, water and environmental engineering, economics and social sciences is also incorporated. A wide offer of optional courses in the last three semesters allows students to concentrate on a selected specialization, the mastering of which they eventually demonstrate in their Bachelor Final Project.
