Upon successful completion of the study program students receive an international private Master in International Management (MIM) degree with a specialization in Technology Management, awarded by the school's main campus in Zurich, Switzerland, based on the recommendation of the faculty of the local campuses where credits were earned, and upon the recommendation of the school's Academic Council.

The Faculty of Science and Technology constitutes three departments; the Department of Materials and Life Science, the Department of Computer and Information Science, the Department of Systems Design Engineering, based on the policy of being “mission-oriented,” providing education that can meet both the needs of the students and the society.

The Computer and Information Science Program (former Department of Computer and Information Sciences) was established in 1998 and is now one of the six programs in the School of Engineering at Nagasaki University. The program is one of the most up-to-date engineering schools in the country.

The School of Computer Science offers systematic training in programming basics and its various applications. Starting April 2015, four new courses have been established to accommodate a more diverse range of technological fields. By equipping students with advanced information and communications technologies (ICT) that are essential for creating a comfortable future society, the department aims to nurture engineers who have the theoretical and practical expertise that society truly needs.

A focused information science program that fosters students able to support today's dynamic advanced information society, implementing further achievements in information science in diverse fields & their wide-spread application. This program enriches students' broad interdisciplinary vision & cultivates cutting-edge specialized knowledge and skills covering computer hardware, software & information network technology; computer/human interaction & media technology; & various systems to fully utilize robotics & computer technology.

Systematic studies of the basics of and applications in the respective fields of software, hardware, database and network, and human communications technologies provide an understanding of technology’s fundamental principles, fostering creativity and the ability to develop and find applications for those technologies.

We train our students to become scientists and engineers with broad viewpoints on natural science, problem-solving abilities in local/global fields, and the spirit of inquisitiveness by teaching computer science as the mathematical basis for informatics and information engineering as applications of informatics in various scientific fields.

The Graduate School of Science and Technology (Master’s Course) considers education as the most important duty and aims to bring up highly specialized engineers who can adapt themselves to the progress and diversity of science and technology.

The Graduate School of Science and Technology (Doctoral Course) consists of two courses of Advanced Materials Science and Technology and Safety Science and Technology. The former covers the development of useful materials and their application technology and the latter does crisis-controlling technology for natural and human-originating disasters in the highly developed society.

The mission of the Department of Chemical Science and Engineering is to foster the next generation of researchers and engineers in chemical engineering on a global scale. This will be achieved through education and research that meets the needs of industry and society. The research and educational activities in our department cover the fields of fundamental science on the microscopic and molecular level, the application of functionality to chemicals and materials, engineering applications of biofunctional materials, and process development in industrial scale material production.

The graduate program of Economics, Management, and Information Science has three research branches, Economics, Management, and Information Science, to provide high-level research and education applying to the undergraduate program. At the same time, this program provides education along with the development of each branch and the needs of the local economy. The Graduate Program in Economics, Management & Information Science focuses on fostering vocational specialists with rich specialized knowledge and practical experience. Needless to say, we accept ambitious students who wish to progress Ph.D. programs at other graduate schools to become professional researchers.

The Master’s course is located in the Departments of Information Systems, Media Informatics, and the Department of Systems Science. Students within the Departments of Information Systems can complete the IT specialist course, by attaining credits in their specified subjects. Application for this course is required upon admission to this school. The curriculum is composed of a specialized subject, a related subject, a practice subject, and specialized research. This enables students to develop their knowledge and understanding of cutting-edge information technology through the accomplishment of these subjects - focusing on their specialized area. In addition, the practice subject offers students the opportunity to acquire the practical methods of problem-solving, and the specialized research enables them to cultivate their skills in gathering research data.

In recent years, information technology is no longer limited to computers, having broadened in application to a myriad of products including home electronics, mobile phones, autos, and more. The field is also gaining importance as high-speed networks are linking information systems as social infrastructure. This course trains students and engages them in research on information technologies facilitating the informatization of society in the 21st century: i.e. information processing, information systems, information networks, information media, and living assistance technologies. Through this curriculum, we work to educate sophisticated engineering capable of a high level of creativity and problem-solving abilities able to anticipate changes in the informatization of society—that are leaders in their fields.

We often hear about the relevance and importance of AI in our lives, but often these discussions are centered either around the negative and dystopian topics of surveillance or the hyper positive Silicon Valley views of how this will solve everything. In this class we will look instead at the middle, and how we take a new humanistic approach to this technology by exploring new interactions that can make a positive impact in our lives.
