It BA (Honours) in Classical Studies focuses on key sites and periods including Pompeii, Roman Britain, Classical Athens, Delphi, the Roman Republic, and the Roman Empire.

This Diploma of Higher Education in Classical Studies accessible and rewarding course explores the literature, language, art and archaeology of the ancient Greek and Roman worlds. The topics that you will cover include the Homeric epics, Athenian tragedy and its reception in the modern world, Roman poetry and politics, and the archaeology of Pompeii and Roman Britain. You will also study classical Latin.

Undertaking doctoral research allows you to develop in-depth knowledge while making a meaningful contribution to your chosen field. With guidance from our expert supervisors, you'll carry out extensive independent research culminating in a thesis of up to 100,000 words. Broadly speaking the areas covered by the Institute’s expertise are ancient literature and cultural history, intellectual history, reception studies and the classical tradition, and digital classics.

The Master’s Degree in Classical Archaeology aims to provide thorough training in the field of Classical Archaeology. Through a didactic methodology combining traditional (archaeological, linguistic-philological, artistic) and innovative resources (applying the most advanced methods to the knowledge of the material culture), it intends to train second-level graduates in archaeological and historical skills.

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) is Otago's most flexible undergraduate degree program, enabling students to study from a selection of more than 40 arts and social science subjects, as well as papers offered elsewhere in the University. Academic breadth is complemented by in-depth knowledge gained through majoring in one or two subjects with the option of minors in one or two others.
