14 Chinese Studies Degree Programs in China

Zhejiang University (ZJU) is the first in China to grant a master's degree in China Studies approved by the Ministry of Education. Compared to similar programs in the country, the Master of China Studies (MCS) program has the largest enrollment, with the most complete curriculum and the most extensive international cooperation. It is a model brand of ZJU in high-level international education. In November 2014, the Zhejiang University Institute of China Studies (ICS) was established.

The Yenching Academy of Peking University aims to build bridges between China and the rest of the world through an interdisciplinary master's program in China Studies. This initiative brings together young people who have demonstrated a talent for leadership and innovation.

Peking University (PKU) has a long-standing history in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language and was one of the first universities in China to launch postgraduate programs in this field. In 2007, it was among the first institutions approved to confer the Master degree of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL), holding a nationally leading disciplinary advantage in the field of international Chinese education.

This research-oriented Master’s program in Chinese Studies has been developed for graduates of B.A. programs in the Chinese Studies field (holding a B.A. in Sinology, Chinese Studies or equivalent qualification). It offers in-depth and small-group instruction in Chinese Studies by recognized experts in various fields. Students will take classes on both pre-modern and contemporary subjects but will select one of these fields as their specialization. Students’ preferences for particular topics will be taken into account in determining the content of required elective classes. Their research capabilities are strengthened through continuous methodology classes. This enables students to build up their expertise and enables them to undertake their own research in their master thesis.

The Contemporary China Studies Programme consists of three parts: Academic courses, a language course and an internship.

With the rise of China as a global economic power there is an increasing demand among organisations and companies from around the world for professionals with knowledge of China’s political, economic and social systems, who can also speak Chinese.

This master's program has been developed for students holding a B.A. degree in Economics, Business Administration or equivalent qualification who want to specialize in China business and economics. Next to classes that offer an in-depth analysis of China’s economy and approaches to doing business with China, students will learn the Chinese language and take classes in Chinese Studies. In addition, senior language classes will empower students to understand and discuss economic texts in the Chinese language. Methodological classes prepare students to use their economic and Chinese study knowledge for academic research as well as for solving business problems.

Summer and winter short-term programs program feature: Offering certificates of completion and transcripts at the end of the program; Optimized curriculum focusing on improving oral Chinese; Cultural experience: Chinese calligraphy, martial arts, paper cutting and Chinese painting, etc.; Language practice: cultural excursions in or around the city in according with the project demand. Customized short-term program for groups program feature: East China University of Technology provides international students group (over 15 people) with short-term customized teaching services all over a year.
