Learn the conceptual frameworks and art of chemical experimentation used by working chemists to understand, predict, and manipulate matter at the atomic and molecular levels. Our bachelor’s program in Chemistry covers a wide variety of active research areas—including organic, inorganic, analytical, physical, theoretical, biochemical, and materials chemistry—and offers interdisciplinary opportunities to study chemical physics and chemical biology.

In 1979, it began to recruit graduate students. In 1981, he was awarded the first batch of master's degrees in the country, and in 2005 he was awarded the right to confer doctoral degrees. There are currently 14 full-time teachers, including 6 professors, 5 associate professors, and 13 who have doctorate degrees. Each year, it recruits about 30 academic postgraduates and 10 professional degree postgraduates. Mainly engaged in organic synthesis methodology, new organic photoelectric functional materials, applied organic chemistry, and other fields. In the past five years, he has undertaken more than 50 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, with scientific research funding of more than 7 million yuan. More than 10 invention patents have been authorized, 6 scientific research achievements have won provincial and ministerial scientific research achievement awards, and many scientific research achievements have been industrialized. In addition, it has extensive academic exchanges and cooperative scientific research relationships with some domestic and foreign universities, scientific research units, and well-known enterprises. Organic chemistry research direction 1) Organic synthesis methodology research: CH bond activation/functionalization reaction, CC and CC hetero bond construction; synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. 2) Design, synthesis, and application of new organic photoelectric functional materials. 3) Applied organic chemistry.

This program aims to provide students with basic knowledge, theories, and skills in chemistry and enable them to seek such careers as teaching, scientific research, and administration in the field of chemistry and other fields related to chemistry.

The pressing needs for sustainable development, acceptable environmental quality, and the urgency to address climate change are placing increasing demands upon governments and industries locally, nationally, and worldwide. To help meet those demands, the Environmental Science major provides training for students intending to enter environmental professions or to pursue graduate study in environmental science and related fields such as biology, chemistry, public health, law, and policy. The major offers an interdisciplinary course of study that combines elements of the natural and social sciences relevant to understanding the biosphere and its interaction with human society.

The MRes Advanced Chemical Sciences programme provides you with the education and training needed to understand different aspects of the field of chemical sciences.

Many of tomorrow’s innovations in fields such as fast computing, renewable energy generation, batteries, plastics, textiles, and transportation will rely on the unique and novel properties of materials. The development of such materials requires integrated knowledge in physics, chemistry, and biology, along with advanced mathematics and computation. The Materials Science major introduces students to the interdisciplinary study in materials science, which includes atomic and molecular structure, mechanical and thermodynamic properties, electric and magnetic properties, and fabrication methods and applications, together with disciplinary training in either physics or chemistry.

The discipline of material science and engineering consists of 3 subordinate discipline of master on material science, material processing engineering, and materials physics and chemistry. This discipline aims to study the structure, processing, and properties of one material and investigate the relationships of these factors. The mandatory core courses include material analysis and characterization, selected topics of materials physics and so on. The main research area covers valence electron structure and materials design, the theory and application of material structure control under an external field.

Received the right to confer a master's degree in 2011, and began to recruit graduate students in 2013. There are 13 full-time teachers, including 6 professors, 3 associate professors, and 4 lecturers. 13 of them have doctoral degrees, and about 10 academic masters are recruited every year. Mainly engaged in research on drug molecule design and synthesis, biomedical sensing and bioinorganic chemistry. Currently, he has undertaken 6 National Self-Technology Fund Projects and published more than 30 high-level SCI papers every year.
