The Welding Technology Certificate Program provides the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to be a skilled entry-level welder in the welding industry. There is an increasing demand for welders in a variety of industries including light and heavy construction, automobile, aircraft, gas and oil, railroad, machinery, and manufacturing industries. These skills are developed through theory and hands-on application into various welding specialties including Blueprint Reading and Advanced Computer-Aided Design, Oxy-Fuel Welding and Related Processes, Basic Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Basic Gas Metal Arc Welding, and Basic Gas Tungsten Arc Welding. Students find employment in a wealth of industries related to construction, machinery, manufacturing oil and gas, and transportation industries. Graduates with entry-level certifications will find challenging jobs with opportunities for rapid advancement.

The Welding Technology certificate course prepares students for entry-level work in the welding industry. Students learn about safety, hand tools, oxyacetylene torches, plasma arc, shielded metal arc welding (stick), gas metal arc welding (MIG), gas tungsten arc welding (TIG), flux-cored arc welding, metallurgy, print reading, and weld symbols.

The Certificate of Specialization in Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) Levels I, II, & or IV signifies mastery of first-level advanced welding skills in Flux-Cored Arc Welding. This specialized certification program is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and expertise needed to excel in the field of welding, particularly in the area of Flux-Cored Arc Welding.

The Welding Technology Certificate provides state-of-the-art training on common welding processes (Shielded Metal Arc [SMAW], Metal Inert Gas [MIG], Tungsten Inert Gas [TIG], oxy-acetylene and plasma cutting) and extensive skill building in each welding position. Additionally, American Welding Society (AWS) Certification for structural plate and pressure pipe is available. The certificate may be used as one of the technical disciplines required for the AAS in General Technology.

The Welding Technology department is committed to training students to become the best welders they can be. The field of welding continues to evolve with significant advances in technology. In our state-of-the-art welding shop, students begin by using our Virtual Reality VRTEX 360 Simulators.

The State of North Dakota is in dire need of professional welders. The NHSC welding program provides students with the basic welding skills needed for entry-level welding jobs and apprenticeship programs.

The Welding Certificate is designed to fit the needs of students preparing for entry level positions as well as experienced technicians seeking to upgrade their skills.

This schedule lists all courses required for completion of the Welding Technology Certificate, but the actual order and specific coursework may vary depending on student placement, start date, and quarter. Please check with your advisor prior to any substitutions.
